Summary:
Tensions are high between Nuwangi and Kurou, but Benaui steps in and diffuses their argument. In the rebel camp, the villagers continue to train while more villages join them. Eruru finds a suspicious man hanging around, so she has him caught and taken to Hakuoro. Oboro suspects him to be a spy for Inkara, but the man claims to be just a peddler. After he shows them his wares, Hakuoro decides to believe him and send him on his way. As Hakuoro leads peddler out, the man pulls a knife on him as a warning to him about his vulnerability. The peddler also seems to know about Yuzuha’s reliance on purple amber as medicine and gives some to Hakuoro. As it turns out, the merchant really was a spy for Benaui. Benaui, who is now stationed at a gate outpost, meets with the spy after capturing and letting go a rebel messenger. That messenger happens to be from a village on the other side of the gate and convinces Hakuoro to lead an attack on the gate. Eruru seems more and more unhappy with the current situation and is quite worried about Hakuoro.
That night, Hakuoro leads his army in an assault. Using a ram, they are able to punch a hole through the walls of the outpost. Oboro jumps over the wall with a group of skilled fighters to soften up the enemy first. The main force quickly topples the outer wall, but then they come face to face with Benaui and his troops. The two sides collide in bloody fighting; once again, Oboro locks blades with Kurou while Hakuoro fights Benaui. Hakuoro, however, is still no match for Benaui’s skills. The imperial forces seem to be winning the battle and Benaui asks Hakuoro to surrender or risk annihilation. Both sides then hear yelling coming from outside the walls. Reinforcements from the other side of the gate come pouring through and soon surround the imperial forces. Benaui realizes that he’s lost the battle and orders a retreat. With their objective met, Hakuoro brings the troops home to the welcome arms of the village’s women. Eruru and Aruru, however, are feeling more and more distant from and concerned about Hakuoro. Meanwhile, Benaui returns to Inkara. The emperor’s not happy with Benaui’s failure, but reveals that he had Nuwangi attack another village not involved in the revolt. This gets Benaui angry enough to say that the foundation of a country is its people – without the people there is no country. Of course, this doesn’t sit well with the emperor, and Benaui is put in jail.
What I don’t get is why they didn’t just use Mukkuru again. I’m pretty sure that the tiger could have handled the entire enemy army and made a feast out of it. When you’ve got a super-weapon like that (and I doubt the enemy knows its weakness), why sacrifice valuable lives?
Anyway, Hakuoro’s rebellion grows bigger by the day while Nuwangi is grabbing more and more power as Inkara’s right hand man. Benaui probably doesn’t have much loyalty left to Inkara, so if Benaui is going to join the revolt, this is as good a point as any to do it. The preview shows him fighting Hakuoro and Oboro though, so maybe not quite just yet. Next episode seems to be the attack on Inkara’s castle.

Dorii and Guraa (the archer twins) are supposed to be boys. Looking at that screenshot of them happily wearing jewelry makes me LOL. XD
Someone else also mentioned that the shounen-ai vibes between them were strong. 😛

from episode 1 until now the role for main character is more like tactical warlord to me (like “chu ge lian” in chinese novel “3 romance kingdoms”) didn’t play a lot of fight

At first, I thought the archer twins were girls, but then their voices made me a little unsure, and now the screenshot of them wearing the jewelry makes me lean back toward them being girls. All we need to be sure is some kind of bath or hot spring scene…

I always thought Dorii and Guraa were female too, and this episode seemed to confirm that with the jewelry.

It was even harder to determine the gender of Dorii and Guraa in the game because it had no voice. Didn’t think one bit about them being males until Hakuoro got teased by them -_-;

Actually, there’s a screencap of several men in the village and some of them have tails and some of them don’t. It’s really just a random or racial thing, most likely.
And Dorii and Guraa and boys. People who have played the game confirmed it.

Actually, I heard that Disgaea anime diverged a lot from the original game.
Utawarerumono is staying almost completely true to the original, with some minor differences.
They really should have changed Hakuoro’s weapon, no matter how cool it is in-game, you can’t anime fan fights in a cool way at all… 🙁
Girl/boys does it matter is not like they are part of the girl group that goner to end up with the main character.
The only one that matters to me so far is Aruru, she so darn cute.

My theory on not using Muukuro is that assumably Arruru would be the only one capable of giving instructions to him thus meaning she would have to engage in the battle as well. Hakuro surely would not want to put her in such danger.
What side is fighting the war anyway, u can’t be telling me the whole story is Inkara’s side vs Hakuro’s side, it seem to me inkara is just a pathetic fatass that goner get crush in a few more episode, there got to be a far more evil king/warlord that Hakuro’s force is goner go up against later.
btw I hate Inkara so much with his freaking afro haircut, what is this the seventies that we are looking at. He just have to die I just can’t stand that ugly hair duo, always remind me of a popcorn that pop after putting in a microwave.

Am I the only person to find it intriguing that Benaui has “normal” ears, just like Hakuoro?
Everyone else seem to have those animal ears and tail, and Hakuoro seemed to find it odd.

Benaui has anime ears too. His hairstyle just does a good job of covering them up. The part in the game where Oboro and Benaui first face off has an event CG and better clearly shows Benaui’s ears, iirc. And they’re animal ones as well.
Hakuoro doesn’t use Mukkuru because he doesn’t want Aruru going into battle, and I doubt Aruru would let Mukkuru out on his own.
