I actually enjoy the omakes at the end of Mirai Nikki episodes, but I’ve noticed that their absence tends to be a good sign – it usually means the pacing of the ep was as batcrap crazy as Yuno herself, and that’s the Mirai Nikki I like best.

「混線」 (Konsen)
“Crossed Lines”

There are an awful lot of revelations in this episode, some more obvious than others, but I suspect it will mostly be remembered as the one where Yuki finally “manned up”. I doubt that will satisfy the legions of haters out there, but at least the specifics of the complaints might change a little.

「家族割り」 (Kazoku Wari)
“Family Discount”

Sometimes in an anime, a character will say something that’s been obvious to the viewer all along, but never muttered aloud on screen. The interesting part comes in seeing how the characters react to it.

With three chapters to cover and a new OP and ED to highlight, it’s no wonder the omake was skipped this week.

To say that Yuno’s relationship with her “Yukkii” took a new turn would be quite an understatement, and I don’t mean her helping him to pee-pee.

There now, Asread – you didn’t need luminescent pink eyes to show that Yuno was batcrap insane this week, did you?

“Reception Outside Range”

“Thanks for the investigation diary. I’m sure it’ll help me beat the shit out of someone.”

「サービス終了」 (Sābisu Shūryō)
“Service Termination”

This episode of Mirai Nikki was a bit of a roller-coaster, quality-wise, but it was so exhilaratingly paced that I can overlook some of the deficiencies in deference to the sheer entertainment value.

「家族プラン」 (Kazoku Puran)
“Family Plan”

This episode is proof for me that a director doesn’t have to make a word-for-word adaptation of a manga for it to be a good adaptation – or a faithful one. Manga is not anime, and the same structures that work well with one don’t always work with the other.

「着信拒否」 (Chakushin Kyohi)
“Blocked Call”

Tons of interesting stuff this week, but first things first – who would have thought it was actually the good Yuno we’ve been watching until this week?

“New Model”

For Amano Yukiteru, it’s a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world, except for Yuno. Well – mostly because of Yuno.

「留守応答」 (Rusu Ōtō)
“Away Message”

It’s another triumph for gritty, hard-headed realism in episode 7 of Mirai Nikki.

“Vibrate Mode”

I can think of very few fictional characters that exemplify the old adage “double-edged sword” better than Yuno Gasai.

It was a big episode for Yukkii. He’s finally come to realize that Yuno is the perfect girl, except for that one nagging flaw – she’s a stalker and her house is full of bodies. I feel you, Little Brother – haven’t we all been there?
