“I’d Rather Protect Than Be Protected & Psychological Techniques for Romance That You Can Use Today”
After its first crazy episode, I wasn’t sure whether or not Sakamoto Desu ga? would be able to deliver on a second. Luckily, I was totally wrong.
I think it became pretty apparent that Sakamoto isn’t the type of guy to just give something to someone. Sure, he’ll go help those around him in need, but if you’re feeling sorry for yourself, he’s going to make you put in the effort before coming to help you. Something that honestly isn’t that bad of a policy especially when it comes to bullying. I mean, sure, Sakamoto could have just leapt in and saved Kubota from those two thugs, but why simply give a man a fish when you should be teaching how to fish instead? Something which happily caught me off guard since I never took this show for one where Sakamoto wouldn’t necessarily be the one looking “cool, cooler, and coolest”. But lo and behold, we got to see Kubota, a pretty unappealing character, rise from nothing into a productive worker and a self respecting human being. And the best thing at the end of all this is Sakamoto didn’t just go and take the credit for everything.
Love is Rough
With his mind and heart solely focused on his academics and now apparently work, I doubt anyone would stand a chance at ripping either away from Sakamoto. That said, I still thought it was super fun to watch someone try! Because when you actually think about it, who would really want Sakamoto? He’s the definition of perfection (and cool) and can you imagine how difficult it would be to try and be on the other end of that?! Luckily we got to see someone as ruthless as Aina try and it was pretty fun to watch. Between seeing just how cringe-worthy all of her failed attempts were to Sakamoto somehow bringing a bunch of selfish girls together, it’s quite amazing how it all flows together.
After an amazing second episode that renewed my confidence in this show, I can happily say I’m excited to see what next week has in-store for us. Because if I’m being honest, I don’t know if I could handle a whole series of just Sakamoto being Sakamoto – it might be just a little too much cool for me.
Side Note: I’m probably picking up a third show but I haven’t decided on which one yet. I think the battle is between Sakamoto, Tanaka, or Kuma Miko. I think I have an idea of where I’m going, but we’ll see. Just to let you guys know \o
