「悪夢のはじまり!」 (Akumu no Hajimari!)
“Beginning of a Nightmare!”

Man, it seems that all my shows are going to tackle the hardships and aches that come with loss this week.

The Word “Death”

In a show that plays out in the fictional town known as Death City in the arid deserts of Nevada (god help you if you say it ne-vah-da) whose de facto leader’s name is Death and empowers human-weapons to become whole as a Deathscythe, I never thought a show like this would ever take the idea of death seriously. With thick plot armor surrounding all of the good guys in the form of the brilliant Professor Stein who can sew almost anything back together, it was a bit of a shock to see Tsugumi and company affected by the aftereffects of death.

Sure some might say a pet dog shouldn’t warrant such emotion but I’ve grown close to a few dogs in my life and I was devastated knowing that I would never be able to see or play with them ever again. Because as stupid or annoying as those dogs were, it was always shadowed by just how much happiness they brought.

Shaula Gorgon Finally Strikes

It’s hard for me to say anything bad about this crazy witch. Between her and her older sisters, I think Shaula might be the most cunning of the three. Not shooting for the stars (like trying to control madness) but instead creating an unshakable army that’s willing and able to follow her every order — she plays to her strengths and it looks like it’s about to pay off. While it remains to be seen just how effective her poison and mind control effects actually are, it looks like we finally know why Stein went out of his way to turn Sid into a zombie. Because for all this time, I thought it was because he was screwed up in the head and just wanted something fun to do! When in reality, it looks like he really didn’t have any other option. Hopefully Zombie Sid makes an appearance before the series comes to a close!

Looking Ahead

With Meme firmly in Shaula’s grasp and Anya being forced away because of politics (it’s always because of politics isn’t it?) it looks like next week’s episode is going to focus on whatever Tsugumi’s going to have to do to bring her group back together. With the entire girls dorm rallying behind her and Meme still standing with Shaula in the preview, I feel pretty same assuming next week will mostly focus on Anya leaving the finale to handle Meme.

  1. Looks like next week, we finally delve inside the soul realms, and see soul icons, both of which were a regular occurence in the first anime. This episode felt just like a lost Soul Eater episode for once!

  3. Well as someone who only read the first and second chapters of the source material I definitely didn’t see this twist coming. I mean especially with how silly Meme acted whenever she was sleep walking, this episode came crashing down like a truck. I actually thought their suspicions of Meme was baseless until that single point when she suddenly opened her eyes and bam! Evil eyes!

      1. Huh? The point is that he was rumored to have died from being stabbed by a statue of liberty, which sounds like a joke and a false rumor. Years later, the “joke” from chapter 1 is remembered, and Sid did indeed die from being stabbed by a statue of liberty. Whether or not it’s whole is irrelevant.

  4. geez… not Meme-chan! I dont want see her hurt!
Shaula really works with DREAMLIKE efficiency, from using literal SLEEPER agent to crating army of hypnotized soldiers. (sorry for BED puns, just could not resist)
So, ina continuity nod, we have rumor about how Sid ended as a zombie validated!
