Love Lab – 01
「出会ってしまった二人」 (Deatte Shimatta Futari)
“The Two That Met”
I was expecting lots of yuri, and got more comedy instead. Luckily, the comedy was really funny!

「志願兵ハ居ナイノカッ!」 (Shigan-hei Ha i Nainoka~tsu!)
“Is There No Prospective Soldier!?”
The characters are vibrant and lively, the setting is beautiful, and the combat is damn fun to watch. If you want something that’s lighthearted while still keeping all the excitement of an action show, this is for you. I for one very much enjoyed this first episode.
「帰宅部入部希望/命短し帰れよ乙女/萩月流出没注意/浪費した青春…プライスレス」
(Kitaku-bu Nyuubu Kibou / Inochi Mijikashi Kaereyo Otome / Hagidzuki-ryuu Shutsubotsu Chuui / Rouhi Shita Seishun…Puraisu Resu)
“Goinging Home Club Applicants / Life is Short; Go Home, Young Lady / Beware of Hagizuki-ryuu Practitioners / Extravagant Youth…Priceless”
If you like tsukkomis, you might like this show.
「変態王子と記憶の外」 (Hentai Ouji to Kioku no Soto)
“The Pervert Prince and Outside the Memories”
There was one piece of the puzzle required to make the plot make sense, and we finally got it. The self-sacrificing hero and his memories…I would expect no less from our Ouji, hentai or not.

Now that the summer preview is out, it’s time to let you all in on our own plans for the coming season. This is Random Curiosity’s summer 2013 blogging schedule.
As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts on many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate. The schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.
「煌めきの… 聖爆誕祭(スラップスティック・ノエル)」 (Kirameki no…Surappusutikku Noeru)
“Glittering…Slapstick Noel”
I missed Rikka’s adorable “auu~”s so much, and it didn’t hurt that this episode had what was probably the single best gag of the entire series so far.
Ahhhh summer. Traditionally thought of as one of the weaker seasons, I for one think we have another excellent crop of anime ahead of us. But then again, what do I know – we all know I have terrible taste! There’s something to be said for looking at the numbers though, and this season is bringing us an astonishing 36 new series, rivaling the swiftly passing spring season. There is once again a wide variety of anime to enjoy. On the sequel front we have the third season of Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, a reboot of the venerated Rozen Maiden series, and more of everybody’s favorite perverted onii-chan (next to me) with Monogatari Series: Second Season. Notable adaptations include the award-winning fantasy novel Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyoubi, magical girl manga and Fate/stay night spin-off Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, and another fantasy novel adaptation in Uchouten Kazoku. There’s not a lot of original material, but holding down the fort are the darkly mysterious Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou and the bishie swimmers of Free!. This is Random Curiosity’s Summer 2013 season preview! Hey, it’s hot outside, wouldn’t you rather stay inside and watch some anime? Well read on to find out what you should watch!
UPDATE: Episode counts have been added to some series.

And the secret fifth facet, Minoru Shiraishi. |
I’ve been doing a lot of writing for the upcoming season preview lately, and for a while it seemed like every show I was previewing was slice-of-life. I don’t know if there are more slice-of-life shows now-a-days or if I just picked every one of them to preview (which is likely), but in trying to figure out which shows to suggest to you, and for what reasons, I inadvertently came up with a framework by which to describe and/or judge slice-of-life shows. These are the four most common facets which modern slice-of-life anime and manga stories employ: atmosphere, characters, cuteness, and comedy, and a special fifth one, because I’m a cheater like that.

I’m never too busy to reference six of my favorite shows in a single post. |
I’ve been saving this post for a week when I was really busy, because I knew I would be able to write this one quickly. For those who have followed some of the series I’ve blogged, you will recognize this as an old rant, but I think it’s one worth expounding upon, or at least one I’ll enjoy talking about at length. Here’s the crux of my argument: anime studios should use every aspect under their control to enhance the story they’re telling, including two of the most frequently neglected elements, the OP and ED.
