「超邪神黙示録」 (Chou Jyashin Mokushiroku)
“Super Evil God Apocalypse”

You know what’s a little ridiculous? I never even considered the possibility that the everyday Hasta may be an elaborate disguise to distract us from thinking about his “true” form. On the surface is this timid boy who could very well trick anyone into thinking he’s a girl. But tickle his back in just the right way and out comes the complete opposite! A shiny, masculine figure who could put most male leads to shame. But in all honesty, it was a nice reminder that Hasta really is a guy yet the appearance of this manly version brought up a very interesting question — when Mahiro said that he thought of Hasta as a younger brother, did you catch that hint of remorse in his voice? Does this mean that Hasta really wants to be with him!?

But for me, I really enjoyed just how much everyone was breaking the fourth-wall this week. Between Nyaruko trying to preemptively end the show and Mahiro acknowledging that the show really wasn’t done yet, there was this fun back-and-fourth between the two. And let’s not forget Mahiro finally leaping into action this week with those deadly forks of his!

While the biggest cameo this week was the Dragonball’s Giant Monkey, I couldn’t help but feel that were a lot more that I missed either because they were too obscure for me or I was just being too dense. But I could have swore that the scene when Nyaruko flashes her phone like a badge comes from one of the many Power Rangers series and I’m fairly sure that Mahiro was copying L’s pose during the eyecatch. And if it was, maybe it isn’t too much of a stretch to say that the way they used that book could be homage to the actual Death Note?

      1. I don’t remember that show being so morbid. My god. They were the judge, jury and executioner to that guy. Where was the proper representative? The court cases? And plus, he murdered a child? In a child’s tv show? And he was indiscriminately killed when found guilty? And it wasn’t even a huge execution. He was literally blown up. Why not lethal injection? These “heroes” are monsters!

      2. sands76, no they are not the judge and the jury, only the executioners. At 0:15 when he says “Judgement Time” he presses the “Judge” button on his device which basically calls the Universal Supreme Court, explains the case and waits for a verdict (he even explains this when he says “the space police can request universe’s ultimate courthouse for judgement”). Obviously, there are no lower courts and their Supreme Court is rather swift, needing only 10s for a verdict (“Delete!”) which is then executed by the rangers.

      3. I haven’t watched the show but isn’t that a bit too extreme? I would definitely not want to live in that country.

If that place is on Earth, I suppose the rangers would certainly not be convicted of murder or manslaughter- the monster isn’t exactly human for that matter.

  1. I’ve never really thought there was any doubt that Hastur really wanted to be with Mahiro…

As for the “true” form, well – there’s no doubt there’s GAR to it, but that outfit – I’m not so sure about the “masculine figure who could put all male leads to shame” part.

  2. Whelp. Hastur’s fulfilled our pretty guy quota for as long as he lives. We might as well bask in our self pity and jealously over this fact.

I blame you Enzo. If you didn’t get lost in the Game, Megabyte wouldn’t’ve taken over the Net and we still would have Mainframe! And therefore Hastur wouldn’t’ve like this! YOU DASTARD!

…okay, I may or may have not, kinda, sorta, but surely not really drank a little. Of what, I can’t say. Only that it was potent and blew my mind!

So much so that I have Cthulu plushie now sitting beside me and I don’t own one. Its just staring at me like it wasn’t to murder me in my sleep and make undying torture to my soul. I will cuddle it and name it Kuroko and love it and hug it forever and ever… zzzzz….

    1. Spirit Gun, Dragonball, Railgun, and I have the strong impression that Kuuko was impersonating Fate Testarosa and her Photon Lancer at about the 6:34 marker. Oh and a Holy(Blasphemous) Hand Grenade?

Holy crapbaskets, an episode where I got more than one reference?

  3. Not to mention the crud load of Kamen Rider references as usual… Especially Kamen Rider W with the dual villains becoming one.

When Nyaruko touched Hasuta on the back, I thought she was going to turn him into a weapon because the whole, this may hurt/this may tickle line I remember seeing in the Kamen Rider Decade/W film.
