Introduction – A New Writer? Shocking Surprise!
A new writer out of the blue? Is this real life? Well boys and girls it certainly is. Stilts and crew were gracious enough to offer me a spot here at RandomC and I simply could not refuse. So who just signed onto Kyuubey’s onerous contract? Some probably know me already from the occasional comment, but for the uninitiated I am Pancakes, the tasty breakfast delight. Canadian by birth and home, I am currently working on a chemical engineering degree, because money is a necessity and nothing screams money quite like oil and pharmaceuticals. I did have dreams to be a doctor, but some dreams are not meant to be.
My anime experience is like many others. I started out in elementary school with the trifecta of Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon before quickly ascending into the magic of Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh. By the time grade eight rolled around, however, social standing took precedence and my anime watching ended. What got me back into anime (and incidentally made me an anime addict) was this little show called Code Geass. I was bored one day during my first degree (biology) so plugged it in. I never became hooked on something faster. Binged the entire series over a week, went searching for more, and never looked back. By time of graduation in 2013 I was a convert to watching anime as it aired.
Introduction – “Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly”
Hey guys and gals! Looks like I’m going to be one of the new contributors starting this spring! You may or may not know me from somewhere around the web since I go pretty much universally by “Moomba” these days. If not, hopefully this introduction will give you some ideas of what kind of person I am!
Jumping right in, the first anime I can remember watching with the knowledge of what constituted an anime was Escaflowne. Before this time, I’d watched Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon and all the other mainstream anime aired in the UK that all young boys were expected to have watched to be considered “cool”. Of course, at that time, I didn’t even know they were anime, so I don’t really consider them what drew me in.
Escaflowne was a starting point, but it wasn’t until Code Geass that I became completely hooked on anime (and discovered Random Curiosity in the process!) Did I know, almost six years ago (apparently – wow, time flies), that I’d one day be contributing directly to the site? No, I doubt the idea even crossed my mind!
So why did I decide to apply? It’s simple really; for years now, I’ve read almost every blog post on the site, keeping up with all the anime I watch. Many times now, Random Curiosity has been the driving force which pushed me to watch certain anime which I’ve then proceeded to become hooked on! The insights provided over the year have given me new ways to look at what I watch, and I hope my insights might be able to do the same for someone else!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Milos no Seinaru Hoshi – Movie Trailer
The official site for the Fullmetal Alchemist movie, subtitled “The Sacred Star of Milos”, recently added a minute long trailer. The movie is intended to tie-in with Brotherhood (i.e. the manga’s story) but as a side story before the actual conclusion. It’s directed by Murata Kazuya (assistant director of CODE GEASS) and the script is by Shinpo Yuuichi (author of the novel Whiteout). L’arc~en~Ciel is performing the theme song, whereas BONES is back for the animation production and seems to going with a very subtle change in style.
* Warning: The official site is Flash-heavy and spasm-inducing with its loading pages.

Mayoi Neko Overrun! – 11
「迷い猫、割れた」 (Mayoi Neko, Wareta)
“Stray Cat, Exposed”
Put the director of SEKIREI and Asura Cryin’ with the key animator from various of episodes of those two series, Toradora, STRIKE WITCHES, and CODE GEASS and we have Fumino unleashing the power of Lelouch Lamperouge on the masses!
Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season – 25 (END)
It’s not over until we get a kiss! Oh crap…
Celestial Being, armed military intervention, GN particles, and Aeolia Schenberg. That’s enough references to make any Gundam 00 fan chuckle under his/her breath. Add in some Lelouch/Zero poses with mention of the United States of Japan and you have CODE GEASS fans smirking as well.
Introduction: I Have To Say…
It’s certainly strange to be here now. I can remember discovering Random Curiosity sometime last spring where I found myself getting back into anime. For the past couple years I wasn’t what you’d call a serious fan of anime. I probably can identify with a lot of fans now who discovered Dragonball Z and Gundam Wing on Toonami way back when they first premiered on Cartoon Network.
Every day after school you could find me and my brother glued to the TV watching with eyes wide with amazement. Eventually for me anime became something like an on again / off again relationship. It wasn’t until one day during the winter of 2007 that I picked up a copy of the Bleach manga. Then I started picking up Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note and that’s when I decided I wanted to see some of these series on the screen and just like that I was sold.
My discovery of Random Curiosity stems from a little series some of you might be familiar with. It was a little show called Code Geass R2. To say the least I was blown away by the first season’s cliffhanger and I simply had to know what happens next? To my dismay I couldn’t find any real information about the series until I stumbled my way here and you could say the rest was history.
I’m here now to provide you with a brand new Daily Dose that will continue to bring you the latest news that you love from within the world of anime and manga (with my colorful commentary, of course.) I’ll also try to blog a show or two if I have the time when the new season of series’s start up this spring.
It may be strange to be here now, but I’m looking forward to having a great time here.
Mizuki Nana – Shin Ai PV (WHITE ALBUM OP)
First off, Happy Belated Birthday Nana-chan! Despite being fairly knowledgeable about seiyuus and their past roles, I’m not quite obsessive enough to bother remembering their birthdays. Incidentally, I stumbled upon the fact that Nana’s birthday is on January 21st and she just turned 29. Her age makes me wonder if she’s going to tie the knot with anyone soon or if she even has anyone in mind, since she’s nearing the big three O soon. Takahiro Sakurai (Suzaku in CODE GEASS) perhaps? Unlike their North American counterparts though, most Japanese people seem to be so career-oriented that being single at 30 years old doesn’t automatically trigger some sort of mid-life crisis. Interestingly enough, it was Inoue Marina‘s birthday the day before (January 20th, turned 24), Makino Yui‘s the day before that (January 19th, turned 23), and Paku Romi‘s birthday today (January 22, turned 37). I’m not sure what’s up with all the January birthdays, but since they’re all noteworthy seiyuus in my book, best wishes to all of them.

Gotou Yuuko as Anya on CosCosPlayPlay
Here’s the random video for the day:
As some of you might know, Gotou Yuuko voiced Anya in CODE GEASS R2 as well as many other popular characters like Mikuru from Suzumiya Haruhi. She appeared on yesterday’s episode of CosCosPlayPlay – a program on Fuji Satellite TV featuring a lot of cosplay tips and info – cosplaying as Anya. In the video, she does a sketch (she’s known for being good at drawing) and acts out some lines (explaining to the host who Marianne is in the process), all while in costume. It’s pretty cute and worth a watch if you’re a GEASS fan, though I don’t think the Anya look really suits her.
