Fall 2019 Preview!

It’s been a crazy year in the real world and we’re headed toward quite an exciting (albeit chaotic) conclusion, depending on your outlook. And what a decade it has been! Times ahead seem uncertain and we must be prepared for a brave, new world, one where I’d encourage all of you to challenge your fates. But in the course of seeking a reprieve from the banalities of daily life, let us dive into the world of anime, which is about to roll over into autumn. NANJA KORYAAA?!? We need to get down to business. Wake up y’all, this is the Random Curiosity Fall 2019 Preview! We will guide you through the good, the bad and the ugly – our destination depending on whichever of these so happen to tickle your fancy.

Spring 2019 Preview!

The time has come again when the flowers bloom and the rain cascades upon the majestic, terrifying world of Outside. For those seeking the comfort and protection of the great indoors, however, you’re in luck, because spring has sprung in the most phenomenal way in this season’s anime. Want some of the most hotly-anticipated sequels of 2019? New seasons of One Punch Man, Shingeki no Kyojin, Zoku Owarimonogatari, Touch, and Bungou Stray Dogs have the proper hookup for you. Does Shounen Jump tickle your fancy? Then the supernatural action of Kimetsu no Yaiba and the comedic romance of Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai will give you everything you’ve been clamoring for. Did you grow up adoring any anime with the names “Watanabe” and “Ikuhara” attached to them? Then you’ll be happy to hear that they’re back with Carole & Tuesday and Sarazanmai respectively. Ever have a war with your friends at the usual hang-out spot about whether Yuki or Kyou was the best boy? The reboot of Fruits Basket can help take you back to those days of yore. And that’s only scratching the tip of the iceberg because spring 2019 has over two dozen anime hot enough to melt the winter snow faster than you can shout “Purification!” That was an Isekai Quartet reference, by the way. But I digress, because spring is sure to continue the long-standing trend of delivering some of the year’s best anime all in one season. This is Random Curiosity’s Spring 2019 Preview.

Winter 2015 Preview!

Winter is here, and with it comes another season of anime. This is a light season, with only 31 new series airing. There are some familiar names, including another TV movie-style entry into the Monogatari series, Tsukimonogatari, the speedy return of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, the second half of the trainwreck fantastic spectacle ALDNOAH.ZERO, and more ghoul horror from Tokyo Ghoul. The wildly popular manga Ansatsu Kyoushitsu is also finally getting its anime, as is the perhaps even more popular ship girl video game, Kancolle. This season even features the long-awaited return of Durarara!! That’s just a taste, so read on for the full scoop.

Fall 2013 Preview!

うらやまし   urayamashi

Sorry for going all Garden of Words, but fall is definitely the envied big sibling of all other anime seasons. With 40+ offerings, hopefully all of you will find at least one show to immerse yourselves in, maybe while sipping tea as the leaves fall. Fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural, and sports fans can rejoice, as offerings like the watery Nagi no Asukara, post-disaster COPPELION, the surreal Kyousougiga (finally), and baseball epic Ace of Diamond fill the board as the dominating genres this season. Many series are also returning this fall, with shows like Magi, Kakumeiki Valvrave, and IS: Infinite Stratos returning to meet popular demand. Other interesting shows include the darkly themed pupa, Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio ~Ars Nova~, which will make heavy use of 3D CGI, and quite possibly the most ecchi offering this season, wrestling anime Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!. But enough from me, let’s get this preview on the road! Welcome to Random Curiosity’s Fall 2013 season preview, built by sweat, tears, and the rustling of the fall leaves.

Twelve Days of Anime #10: The Last

Who

Maybe it’s the season, or the unusual plethora of romance anime I’m watching this season (or the constant repetition of “The Last” by WongFu Productions), but I finally decided that this post would be all about the who, what, when, where, and whys of my anime history, represented by different anime that defined a particular point in time.

Spring 2012 Preview!

Without further ado, welcome to the first collaborative edition of the Random Curiosity season preview, now featuring more writers for you to love and adore than ever. (Please don’t stalk us too much though.) As you all probably know, Divine, our season preview writer/extraordinaire, is taking an indefinite hiatus so he has passed on the baton to the rest of us writers – and just in time for the spring preview too, which is generally one of the busiest seasons with 50 new shows and counting. As is standard fare, we have the usual batch of hotly anticipated sequels to recent shows such as Fate/Zero 2nd Season, Kimi to Boku 2, and Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? OF THE DEAD, but there are also sequels and spiritual successors to venerated older shows as well like Eureka Seven Astral Ocean, the return of the Saint Seiya franchise after 25 years, and the reunion of Cowboy Bebop’s director and composer for a new show after over ten. So dust off that TV, free up some hard drive space, or do whatever else it is you do to get ready, because this season looks highly promising. Long-awaited sequels, a diversity of genres, and a nice balance of original works and manga/light novel adaptations have filled the slate with many shows that merit more than just a passing glance, and made this is a season one where even the pickiest of viewers should be able to find something to enjoy.
