Legend: 13 Divine 2 Kiiragi 1 Prooof 3 Takaii Not covering

With the new fall season starting tomorrow, here’s a quick overview of what the plans are blogging-wise. Please note that this schedule may change in the upcoming weeks, but will likely remain very close to what’s listed here. As usual, I’ll be watching much more than I’ll be blogging, so Suzuku and Takaii have been brought in to help cover some other shows. Prooof is continuing on with Bleach and Nurarihyon no Mago like originally planned, whereas Kiiragi is going back to being the resident One Piece writer. If for some reason you haven’t checked out the Fall 2010 Preview already, all links in the schedule will take you to the series’ corresponding entry. I’ve added a lot of new promotional videos since the preview was originally published, so it’s worth checking out again even if you have.

At the moment, I’m not too keen on covering ten shows, even though it’s one less than this past season and six less than spring. Real-life priorities have significantly reduced the amount of time I can invest into the site, so I need to find a better balance between work, blogging, and recreation. With that in mind, Tegami Bachi REVERSE and Hakouki Hekketsuroku are two series that I really want to cover, but may forgo both depending on how covering two shows a day from Friday to Monday feels. My current plan is to cover them in a slightly reduced capacity as opposed to not at all, for which I’ve been tweaking the filmstrip post format in preparation. I also plan to use this season as an opportunity to try out a more image-oriented version of that format, particularly for comedies where the captions allow me to poke fun at various things that happen and the less rigid flow makes it easier to go off on a tangent with random thoughts. The ones I have in mind are Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, Shinryaku! Ika Musume, and Sora no Otoshimono Forte. I’ve been playing with the format for the past few days and really like how it looks and reads, so I’m looking forward to putting it into practice and hearing everyone’s feedback.

As for some other tidbits, I originally planned to let Suzuku cover To Aru Majutsu no Index II, but have also reluctantly let him cover STAR DRIVER in the highly coveted 5pm Sunday time slot, previously occupied by the likes of Macross Frontier, Gundam 00, and Fullmetal Alchemist. The reason being that I want to see Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls covered in an objective and unbiased light that looks beyond the surface, and didn’t want either him or Takaii to take a stab at a show that tends to attract “less agreeable” comments. I don’t feel too bad about leaving out the Arakawa Under the Bridge sequel, but do wish that I could make time for Kuragehime. Even without them, the 22 shows of coverage will be more than enough to keep the site bustling with impressions, plus there are three manga series on top of that. Please note that I’m the only one who will be covering off raws, so there will be a bit of delay for the other writers after something airs. I am pushing Suzuku to try and cover STAR DRIVER unsubbed though.

As always, comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome. I’m also willing to listen to requests (complaints?) to a degree if you really want to a series covered that isn’t listed above, though it would have to fall under the list of ones I’m planning to watch to be considered.

Notes:
– Crunchyroll has added Otome Youkai Zakuro to their line of simulcasts for the season.
– Aniplex USA will be streaming Oreimo and Togainu no Chi.

Updates:
10/3: Suzuku has decided not cover Motto To LOVE-Ru anymore, as he has more shows than he can handle.
10/5: Hakuouki Hekketsuroku moved to Mondays as the first day it airs, in light of AT-X premiering a double-header of the special and episode 13.
10/15: Kiiragi has decided to drop One Piece in favor of covering currently airing series. He’ll be taking over coverage of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt from Suzuku and picking up Kuragehime as well.
10/20: Prooof has decided to drop Nurarihyon no Mago.
10/30: Suzuku won’t be covering Togainu no Chi after all, as he’s reached his limit on the number of shows he can cover concurrently.
12/09: Suzuku will no longer be writing for RandomC, so I’ve picked up STAR DRIVER, To Aru no Majutsu no Index II, and MM.

      1. Oh I was just about to ask that…Its in my ps3 all day now, Im wondering if I should watch it now or sleep and wait it till day after (busy tmr)…That just means im off limits to RC till then coz I dont wanna be spoiled…even by the top 6 screens

      2. I am very excited about watching UBW. I haven’t found a download -stares at Suzuku-
But, I’m a super huge fan of Fate/Stay Night. I basically watched it, re-watched it years later when the BluRay came out, and at the same time read everything about it through wikis and fansites.

        I also love Ayako Kawasumi.

  1. Disappointing to see you guys are not covering the 2nd season of Arakawa Under the Bridge, since the 1st one was quite good. Still, you guys are mostly covering the good stuff, so it’s not so bad.

  2. I was a little saddened by the loss of Arakawa but the other show are so great, it’s no big deal. I was wondering when the new shows were gonna start. Tell me, during the gap between the new shows’ airing and the old ones being finished, what shows on tv in Japan to fill the void? Reruns? Just curious..

    1. I think they do. Watch the whole thing, then sift through it in a slightly jagged manner. Sort of like “Hey, I remember this cool scene where stuff looked awesome!” /screencap. It’s probably a ton of work to get all those images, but it’s probably second nature to these guys by now.

      Vsin
    2. It’s somewhat streamlined, but still a fairly manual process. I take anywhere from 80 to 120 screen captures while watching and then pick 39-42 of the best ones. At times, I’ll pause and step frame by frame to get the exact shot I want.

      1. @noobie: Well, there are some players (VLC, for example) that have a “save snapshot” feature which would simplify things, but even then, for the number of series that they’re doing, it’s a lot of work.

    1. I have to agree. I first started watching Arakawa because of the preview and coverage here. I don’t think I’d feel complete without it. Maybe give it to someone else, Divine? I’m sure your new recruits wouldn’t mind taking on a second show…

      1. Urr, have you looked at the chart? It’s too late for a “second show”, which is the problem.

@fathomlessblue: What’s wrong with Amagami? Never mind that they’re on completely different days, thus the situation for covering them is different.

      2. @Suzuka

Lol, I was mostly being lighthearted although it’s true my interest in Amagami SS has waned. The only show i’ve truly hated recently was HSotD, although I seem to be mostly alone in that stance.

Regarding Arakawa, I guess it’s easy to forget that the upcoming season so far appears pretty decent, to the point there may be more good series’ than I actually have time to watch, let alone expect others to blog. With only a fully booked up Divine having seen the show, it is a lot to ask others to do writeups. I still think it’s a shame, but mainly because I believe Arakawa to be pretty underrated, with not alot of support from across the blogosphere.

But yeah, sorry if I came across moaning/snotty, I appreciate the job you guys are doing.

    1. If I’m correct, this is because if they post it on the day it is actually, it’d sound like absurd because “no one” would actually want to watch a show “late at night.” (At least that’s what I heard from Divine [or was it someone else?])

    1. Yeah Kuragehime’s the show i’m looking forward to most after Arakawa so it’s a bit of a shame neither are being covered this time. Oh well, with any look they’ll be picked up elsewhere.

      fathomlessblue
    1. Whether we want to or not has nothing to do with it. We have lives too and can only cover so much, and when weighted against the other possible shows to blog it lost out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the sacrifice in the long run though.

  3. I loved reading the arakawa posts. But it’s nice of you to keep your young blood away from people who might misunderstand edgy echi stuff.
Still there is a blond venusian crying for attention 😛

  4. I find it funny how there are 2 new members to RC, and Divine is still blogging 5+ shows. Not that I mind at all, just sayin’. 😛 It’s nice to see RC so active though. Much appreciated guys~

I am so excited for this season, it actually looks promising! Pansuto anime and Kuragehime are the two I look the most forward to. Star Driver looks like Code Geass and Sailor Moon’s lovechild. Do not know if want. It’ll all depend on the first episode blog…

    xHoneythief
    1. That’s because of the fact that fall has so many new anime in comparison to Summer and Winter. For example, if we had came aboard during the summer season Divine would probably only have covered 4-5 shows, as opposed to the 11 he did without us. Likewise, if it wasn’t for us Divine would have to blog 12 more shows than he is already planning to if he were aiming to get the same level of coverage we’re going to be providing this season. We do make a difference. 🙂

      1. Ah, I didn’t mean to make it sound like you guys didn’t make a difference. Like I said, it’s good to see RC active with all the new members and having so many different shows being blogged. I just thought he’d cut back a bit for at least awhile, haha. STILL APPRECIATED THOUGH, REALLY.

And I just realized Super Robot Wars is being blogged as well. Words could not express my current happiness.

        xHoneythief
    2. It saves me from covering 16 like I did back in spring, that’s for sure. If I didn’t bring more writers on, I would’ve stuck to 10 or 12 and only taken the highly anticipated ones. i.e. I would’ve blogged Index II, STAR DRIVER, Bakuman, and Yakumo myself and dropped four of the shows I currently have to compensate.

I do see the irony though. It’s like I brought two more writers on and it didn’t effectively reduce my workload whatsoever. All it did is add to the coverage the site has.

  5. Togainu no Chi is being blogged? Suzuku, I love you.
Actually you’re covering quite a lot of the shows I really want to watch this season. XD
I’m glad Hakuouki and Bakuman are getting blogged too. <3
    Good Luck everyone!

  6. There is a slight chance I’ll cover Arakawa in a reduced capacity, though I’m not sure if it will offer much in the ways of being interesting posts. By reduced capacity, I’m talking about a quick manga style post with only a dozen or so screen caps, which is what I’m planning to do for Tegami Bachi REVERSE and Hakuouki Hekketsuroku if I choose to stick with them.

However, I do get a lot of blogging requests even from people who have already watched something themselves, so perhaps the impressions edge out the images to a lot of readers. *thumbs up*

      1. He probably meant that because he is accustomed to Divines post-style he prefers them since he isn’t accustomed to your posting style.

As for me, i don’t have a preference i guess since i enjoy the posts of all 3 bloggers the same.

        damrod
  7. The schedule’s a lot more colorful this season!

Whoa, Sundays are packed and it looks like Divine’s still the same blogging tons and watching well pretty much everything ^^. Anyway, most of the shows shows I will and may watch are on the list thanks to our bloggers, so I really can’t complain.

Good luck to Random Curiosity and to an awesome season.

    Jaden
  8. I’m in awe. *starts a slow clap for the RC Bloggers*

I’m really excited for Takaii’s Bakuman impressions and it’s always interesting to read Divine’s posts on Amagami. 😀 I’m also excited about the continuing coverage of manga on RC. I love funny captions so the new format seems really promising! =)

THANK YOU to the RC Staff, and especially Divine, for your hard work!!! We readers all appreciate it!!! :D<333
I love RC for all the little details like the shoutbox, song of the moment, amazingly comprehensive schedules, comment preview, gravatar, etc…
Please take care and don't burn out. :')

  9. More Arakawa and Shinrei tantei really are about it eh..

Arakawa wasn’t the greatest but it had it’s moments.

Shinrei just because who doesn’t love a mystery/horror. Although have ZERO clue how it will actually be.

  10. any news on Shiki schedule? been following the bloodsuckers in a small village story, but it went on hiatus for some time
seems I’ll be doing download marathons on tuesdays or wednesdays – and a watching marathons next day 🙂
this website should be reclassified from blog to major anime webzine
with even 300 words per entry it will be over 9000 words per week!

    ewok40k
    1. Despite what a lot of people have been misinformed into believing, Shiki isn’t on hiatus until October 14th. Only Fuji TV is taking three weeks off. Kansai TV only took one, so episode 12 will air on October 5th. It would’ve been even earlier, but it was five days behind Fuji TV’s broadcast to begin with.

As for 9000 words a week, I’m easily around that range already with my 11 shows and one manga this past season. The vast majority of my posts are generally in the 600-900 word range. 300 words in a post is shorter than it seems. It’d be essentially one paragraph. With the new writers, it will likely be a lot more, though I’m trying to cut back on the text with my new format.

  11. I first went o_0 at the amount that Divine was covering. Unlimited Blogging Works indeed …

-On the new filmstrip post format, I want you to know that I think that may be the best thing for a good portion of the shows, as I just don’t think with the current image format (six images on preview) that many posts will be able to remain on the front page for long.*sweatdrop indeed*

-On not letting the other members cover Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls, was that out of consideration for them, or was it because you thought they wouldn’t handle it? (No disrespect is meant by that, I know that Kiiragi had done HSotD, and he seemed to do well with it. And then there was Jaalin … indeed)

-Suzuku covering STAR DRIVER sounds like a tough job, especially on RAW.

    Arabesque
    1. It’s completely out of consideration. Otherwise, I’d be covering STAR DRIVER instead.

Kiiragi had a less than enjoyable experience covering HOTD on some weeks because people would chew him out on having a negative stance about the fan-service yet continue watching it. Rather than criticism, some fans perceived it as bashing the show on a weekly basis.

From my experience, reader reactions really depend on the views of the writer and way they look at and approach different series. I find that fan-service oriented ones are a touchy subject unless you go about it a certain way and I don’t want the new guys to get discouraged covering one. I didn’t have too much difficulty covering Kanokon and kiss x sis, but it could have led to a lot of trolling had I not been purposely looking at those shows beyond the surface.

      1. As a female anime viewer, I (specifically me) dont really enjoy excessive fanservice. So Kiiragi’s blogging didnt bother me. But Im not bothered if someone describes how they love it either. I never watched Kiss x Sis but I read Divine’s blogging of it because I enjoyed his (Im guessing your a guy lol)reaction too it. I read the blogs to see how other felt about it, or discover stuff I overlooked when watching myself.

        unknown2
  12. I’m guessing Ika Musume will go the way of Arakawa with not too many people watching (too bad, it is a nice comedy), though hopefully it ends up like working!! where the storyline is engaging enough it becomes popular.

    Zaku Fan
    1. I’m really looking forward to Ika Musume and getting the series “out there” in the eyes of readers. My goal is to make everyone see the charm of the characters, much like I did when I flipped through a bit of the manga.

Mitsudomoe was an example of a series that a lot of people looked on with wary eyes last season, but when people actually gave it a chance, they generally fell in love with it. I can see the same thing happening with Ika Musume.

  13. I’m disappointed that Arakawa won’t be blogged; I was looking forward to it but I understand that people DO have lives outside blogging ^^

Though, I won’t be happy if the show was put aside in favor for others that are mainly and simply panty-shots, bras and stupid fan-service… Which seems to be the formula for all the newest animes and what seems that WILL happen in at least two of the sunday shows :\

    Won’t be happy at all.

    Bekas
  14. Though i have to admit i only started watching arakawa under the bridge because divine blogged it, I actually prefer it when the shows I’m not watching get blogged. That way I can read about the shows I haven’t seen and then decided later on whether or not they’re worth watching.

    Toodles
  15. I certainly hope Tegami Bachi REVERSE and Hakuouki Hekketsuroku does get some form of coverage, but it’s fine if you can’t (:

Anyhoo, thank you for working so hard, RC! Keep it up!

    Anne
