Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai – 01

「邂逅の…邪王真眼」 (Kaikou no … Ja Ou Makoto Me)
“An Unforseen Encounter…the Tyrant’s Eye of Truth”

Have you ever waved your hand at an automatic door (a train, an elevator, a grocery store front door) and been secretly delighted when it opened on cue? Don’t lie; I know you have. Now what would happen if you kept doing that, out in the open for all to see…and it led to love? I wonder…

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II – 13 (END)

「境渡りの欲深き者達」 (Sakai Watari no Yoku Fukaki Mono Tachi)
“The Greedy Ones who Cross Borders”

A stunning finale to a great season. Everyone comes together in one last great effort to grasp victory…and at the end of the day, even some of the losers are better off, with lovers once lost or newly found beside them. Beautifully done.

Final impressions included.

It’s that time of the year again, time for the final season schedule of 2012. It’s been a good year, full of grand changes for RandomC and fun anime for all involved…but I’ll save the reminiscing for the the year end post. For now, here’s what we’re planning on covering this time!

As with previous seasons, this is a tentative overview of RandomC’s plans for the new season. We’ll also be doing introductory posts about many of the shows we’re not covering, so if something catches one of our eyes, things will be shifted around to accommodate. The schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.

…more after the jump.

My Way or the Anime – All Good Stories Must Come to an End

Not the post we deserve, but the one we need.

I write this after having finally seen The Dark Knight Rises, over a month and a half after its release. Yeah, I’m weird like that. Yet, as good stories are apt to do, it has put me in a writing mood, so it’s time to get these thoughts down before they melt away. This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for some time, and I’ve saved its release until the end of this season because that’s the only time it could come out. This is a time of endings, along with a few not-so-endings, and that’s exactly what I want to talk about. Here is my not-so-controversial (but frequently ignored) thesis:

All good stories must come to an end.

Though this is a post about endings, there are surprisingly few spoilers ahead. More after the jump.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II – 12

「居場所の刃傷持ち」 (Ibasho no Ninjou Mochi)
“Where the One Scarred by Swords Belongs”

The action this episode continued to be fast-paced and exciting, and there were two times where a chill ran up my spine that said “yeah…you’re watching something special.” Heroism, pride, sacrifice, loyalty, and love – emotions abound in this penultimate episode of Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II.

Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon II – 11

「花畑の合格者」 (Hanahata no Goukakusha)
“Successful Candidate in the Flower Garden”

It’s a rare show that can keep the tension high for a long time while still delivering meaningful conclusions every step of the way, but thanks to having 4+ shows worth of plot all woven into one, Kyoukaisen can, and is, doing exactly that. And it’s superb.

Fall 2012 Preview!

Finally, the long-awaited fall season! Along with spring, fall tends to be one of the busier seasons, with everything from the debut of highly anticipated blockbusters to the continuation of venerable old series. And this year is no different! Hotly anticipated adaptations include the award-winning sci-fi light novel Shin Sekai Yori, the 5pb. sci-fi visual novel ROBOTICS;NOTES, and the Key romantic drama Little Busters! The sequel front has some heavy-hitters as well, among them the return of spring’s amoral action-adventure Jormungand, a brand new season of the comedy and harem classic Hayate no Gotoku, and the third season of the mangaka drama Bakuman. There are even a few original series to round things out, most notably Urobochi Gen’s PSYCHO-PASS. Fall is busy indeed–and like last spring, you’re fortunate enough to have not one, not two, but FIVE writers to help guide you through the shows you’ll want to be watching this season. Lucky for you, eh? So without further ado (that’s a lie; there’ll be a lot more ado before we’re done), let’s get on with it and talk about the 32 series we’ve previewed for you this season. Get excited!

Special Report – What If Sword Art Online Were Written Today?

Alright, I’m going in.

This week I’ve got a special treat for you all, the very first Stilts Out Loud: Special Report! While normally these posts are more of general editorials, which draw examples from multiple shows (and even from other genres) to talk about some theme or storytelling tactic, today we’re going to take a look at one anime in particular. This one will be about none other than the most watched show of this season, Sword Art Online.
