Monthly Impressions – December 2014

Happy New Year readers! I hope you all had a great holiday season and to wrap up the amazing year of 2014, we start with the December Monthly Impressions. This also marks the end of our Fall 2014 season so feel free to discuss all the gems, the uglies and everything else in between. It’s been a busy month for me so excuse the tardiness of thise post. The Winter season starts next week and you can all bet that the AOTY post will be up… very soon. Thanks again for all the readers that continue to support us year after year! And if you’re new to RC, welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay!

Shingeki no Bahamut: GENESIS – Favarooo!

Certainty of death, *small* chance of success… What are we waiting for?

This is how you do a card game adaptation. Step 1: Take the basic mechanics and/or setting of the game. Step 2: Create an interesting cast of characters who work well together, even if they need to be original. Step 3: Use the setting as a jumping off point to tell a good story. That seems simple, but the key is to not remain shackled to the game. Use its assets, but always remember the most important thing: tell a good story. That’s what Shingeki no Bahamut GENESIS did, and it worked damn well.

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru – A Hero’s Despair, & Hope

Our heroes.

The most surprising show of the season ends with more surprises. We thought it was slice-of-life, it turned out to be magical girl combat, and then it got dark. The question is: how did it fare in the end, and how does it measure up?

Trinity Seven – 12 (END)

「聖戦少女(クリミナルガール)と魔王世界(ヒズワールド)」 (Seisen Shoujo (Kuriminarugaaru) to Maou Sekai (Hizuwaarudo))
“Criminal Girl and His World”

Trinity Seven ends as it went on … with eccentric girls and a confident harem lead at odds with shifty pacing, production values, and plot. Last episode wasn’t bad though.
