K-ON Second Season Greenlit!

Who says there aren’t any surprises at the end of the year? At the conclusion of the K-ON “Let’s Go!” live concert in Yokohama yesterday, an announcement was made for a second season of the ever-so-popular light music anime. The official website has already been updated to confirm what attendees of the live event found out, along with an image of Yui looking inconspicuously over her shoulder.

While the thought of a sequel in the near future never really crossed my mind, it was only a matter of time given the original’s popularity. It’s safe to say there’s already one series on my list that’s a guaranteed watch next year. I can already picture the new opening and ending themes (whatever they may be) taking the Internet air waves by storm. Speaking of which, I’d love to see what went down at that live concert.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing more of Yui, Mio, Ritsu, Mugi, and Azusa in the new year?

Server Failures Suck

As some of you might know, many of the images on Random Curiosity are graciously hosted by my friends at Maximum7. Unfortunately, a bout of bad luck struck last week when two of the hard drives on that image server suddenly died. As it was explained to me, a RAID 5 is an array of three drives, and when one drive dies, you can swap it out for a new one without interruption of service. However, in the rare case that two die, which is what happened here, the array becomes irrecoverable. The good thing is that the guys at Max7 were able to provide me with another image server, and divine and I spent several hours uploading images to get it back up to serving most everything that points to it.

The bad thing is that a lot of those archived images are still gone, mainly the ones in Jaalin and Trillian’s old posts (like K-ON! and Saki), because we didn’t maintain second or third copies of those like we do for everything else. I’m honestly not quite sure what to do about it at this point since it doesn’t make sense to have them re-screencap entire series. If by chance anyone out there happens to have those images saved somewhere, please email me, but I suspect that the images in those archives are gone forever.

SCANDAL – Don’t say “lazy” (K-ON! ED Cover)

SCANDAL, the self-proclaimed “Most Powerful Japanese Girlie Pop Rock”, appeared on NHK’s MUSIC JAPAN Shinseki Anisong Special (新世紀アニソンSP) earlier this month. While I didn’t know anything about them prior to today, some of you may know them for performing “Shoujo S”, the tenth opening theme to Bleach.

Anyway, instead of performing one of their songs on this TV special, SCANDAL opted to perform a cover of the ever-so-popular K-ON! ending theme, “Don’t say ‘lazy'”. They’re not quite the Yui, Mio, Mugi, and Ritsu we know, but they are a real-life group of high school friends from Osaka who formed their own band and made it to the big leagues, so it was pretty cool to hear their rendition of this awesome song. The only thing that would’ve made this a bit cooler is a keyboardist for the true Houkago Tea Time composition.

P.S. Anyone else see a bit of ZONE in them?
