The Best of Anime 2014

Now that 2014 is officially over, it’s time for our yearly rage fest foray into annoying everyone with our questionable opinions, the Best of Anime 2014 post! As with last year this post is a collaboration between the writers who watched the most series this year (and who didn’t say “Not it!” quickly enough), me (Zephyr) and Stilts. We each watched upwards of a 100 series this year, and while we we won’t guarantee total objectivity (like such a thing exists), we’re generally well-informed about whatever we’re wrong about.

Disclaimer: As always, disclaimers abound. Please keep in mind that “best” is subjective. What’s best for us isn’t necessarily best for you, and that’s perfectly fine. This list shouldn’t be taken as some kind of inviolable truth, but rather the opinions of two guys who had too much time on their hands and spent it conjuring up a list of picks based on all the anime they watched. Naturally our choices will be influenced by our own tastes, experiences, and personal impressions. Before you go bashing one of our choices, please make sure you’ve at least seen it and know where we’re coming from. Finally, all we ask is that you respect our opinions and the opinions of others in the comments, just like we respect yours. Thank you.

Disclaimer #2: The choices in this post are not reflective of the opinions of all Random Curiosity writers. They are solely the opinions of myself (Zephyr) and Stilts, save for where otherwise noted. Thank you for your understanding.

Reader’s Choice – Best of Anime 2014 Poll

The end of the year is here and it’s time for the ninth Annual Reader’s Choice poll. Do you have a favorite series you’d like to see win? Are you just curious to see what everyone else enjoyed this year? Either way, the microphone’s in your hands now. Make your vote count.

As per the usual, there will be two polls for you to vote on this year – one for regularly broadcast TV series, and another for OVA/movies. We’re asking you for your top 5 picks in each poll, which should stop the results from being heavily skewed towards the mega-popular shows. This year we have an astounding 190~ TV series (shorts are included this year) and 100~ OVA/movies/specials for you to choose from, so make sure you look over the entire list before deciding. Keep in mind that like all entertainment, anime is subjective. There is no one size fits all here. Please respect the opinions of others, even if you may disagree vehemently with them.

More after the jump.

Note: The polls will close at midnight PST on Thursday, January 1st. This means the morning of the 1st, the second it turns into 12:00:00AM PST on the 1st, and 8:00 AM GMT on the 1st. Results will be posted in the Best of Anime 2014 post, which will be written by myself and Stilts (the two active writers who have watched the most anime this year).

* This will be kept at the top for the next while, so be sure to scroll past it, check the slider on top, or the Recent Entries on your right for new posts.

Introduction – “If you’re ever looking for another writer…”

Samu 1

Just according to keikaku1.

Well, here I am. It appears that luck was on my side and the stars have aligned in my favour, resulting in me being given this fantastic opportunity to blog for RandomC. So let’s get started with the introductions: I’m Samu, from bonnie2 Scotland, and I’ll be the latest addition to the weird and wonderful cast of RandomC!

Like many others, I watched anime throughout my childhood without even realising what it was. But Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Digimon, and Beyblade aside – as well as far too much money spent on merchandise and trading cards over my childhood – my real first taste of anime came in 2011, when I started watching series by the season with help from the previews, schedules, and episode reviews available on RandomC.

For me, 2011 was a spectacular year for anime, maybe because it was my first proper experience with it, and maybe because of nostalgia, but it was what shifted me into high gear and had me hooked on watching anime from then on. I also love manga and read a few dozen as they are published, which I’ve done for a few years now, starting with my first ever ongoing anime/manga experience: Bleach. And because of that fateful first viewing, the chances of Bleach being anything other than my personal favourite anime/manga/series are essentially zero. We all had our gateway series, I suppose!
