Reader’s Choice – Best of Anime 2014 Poll

The end of the year is here and it’s time for the ninth Annual Reader’s Choice poll. Do you have a favorite series you’d like to see win? Are you just curious to see what everyone else enjoyed this year? Either way, the microphone’s in your hands now. Make your vote count.

As per the usual, there will be two polls for you to vote on this year – one for regularly broadcast TV series, and another for OVA/movies. We’re asking you for your top 5 picks in each poll, which should stop the results from being heavily skewed towards the mega-popular shows. This year we have an astounding 190~ TV series (shorts are included this year) and 100~ OVA/movies/specials for you to choose from, so make sure you look over the entire list before deciding. Keep in mind that like all entertainment, anime is subjective. There is no one size fits all here. Please respect the opinions of others, even if you may disagree vehemently with them.

More after the jump.

Note: The polls will close at midnight PST on Thursday, January 1st. This means the morning of the 1st, the second it turns into 12:00:00AM PST on the 1st, and 8:00 AM GMT on the 1st. Results will be posted in the Best of Anime 2014 post, which will be written by myself and Stilts (the two active writers who have watched the most anime this year).

Fall 2014 Preview!

Say good-bye to the hot summer temperatures with a refreshing fall breeze and a slew of new anime for your viewing pleasure. There are some big hitters making their triumphant return, like Fate/Stay Night diving into its Unlimited Blade Works route and Log Horizon starting its second season. Some crazy slice-of-lifes making their fall debut include the mermaid-related Ore no Furo Jijou and the Akiba based bookstore Denki-Gai no Honya-san. There’s also a bunch of your typical fare to fill in the cracks, like Kyoto Animation’s slackstick drama Amagi Brilliant Park, a Sunrise original called Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo, A-1 pictures’ part-medieval part-shounen Nanatsu no Taizai, a high school based fantasy known as Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de from Studio Trigger, and Studio Ghibli’s first foray into television with Sanzoku no Musume Ronja. One’s taste in anime can be really subjective, but I think this season’s offerings provide enough for anyone to find something they’ll like. So what are you waiting for? Start scrolling!

Monthly Impressions – August 2014

It’s that time of month again! And I’m proud to release the second Monthly Impressions post since we started up this category again. These have gotten a fair amount of positive reviews so far so we intend to keep on delivering as long as readers find value in them. It’s incredible how fast a month flies by and in another month, we’ll already be at our season finales!

Monthly Impressions – July 2014

Retrospective posts are back and exactly 3 years since Divine’s last post. As hinted by some of our writers already, for the past few months the RC staff members have been discussing ways to bring something new to RandomC. After revamping the podcasts and bringing in fresh blood, we still wanted to do more. So we took all your ideas and feedback, put them into a hat and picked a winner! The end result was to bring back the monthly digest. Yay! For everyone new to RC, the goal of these posts are to summarize our impressions of all the shows that we’re watching regularly. This includes shows that might not be covered on a weekly basis, and hopefully spark some interest and discussions outside the daily posts. For those of you that have seen the previous Retrospective Posts before, these new ones will be a litte different.

Fall 2013 Preview!

うらやまし   urayamashi
美しう成て  utsukushuu natte
散る紅葉    chiru momiji

Sorry for going all Garden of Words, but fall is definitely the envied big sibling of all other anime seasons. With 40+ offerings, hopefully all of you will find at least one show to immerse yourselves in, maybe while sipping tea as the leaves fall. Fantasy, sci-fi, supernatural, and sports fans can rejoice, as offerings like the watery Nagi no Asukara, post-disaster COPPELION, the surreal Kyousougiga (finally), and baseball epic Ace of Diamond fill the board as the dominating genres this season. Many series are also returning this fall, with shows like Magi, Kakumeiki Valvrave, and IS: Infinite Stratos returning to meet popular demand. Other interesting shows include the darkly themed pupa, Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio ~Ars Nova~, which will make heavy use of 3D CGI, and quite possibly the most ecchi offering this season, wrestling anime Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!. But enough from me, let’s get this preview on the road! Welcome to Random Curiosity’s Fall 2013 season preview, built by sweat, tears, and the rustling of the fall leaves.

Summer 2013 Preview!

Ahhhh summer. Traditionally thought of as one of the weaker seasons, I for one think we have another excellent crop of anime ahead of us. But then again, what do I know – we all know I have terrible taste! There’s something to be said for looking at the numbers though, and this season is bringing us an astonishing 36 new series, rivaling the swiftly passing spring season. There is once again a wide variety of anime to enjoy. On the sequel front we have the third season of Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai, a reboot of the venerated Rozen Maiden series, and more of everybody’s favorite perverted onii-chan (next to me) with Monogatari Series: Second Season. Notable adaptations include the award-winning fantasy novel Kami-sama no Inai Nichiyoubi, magical girl manga and Fate/stay night spin-off Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, and another fantasy novel adaptation in Uchouten Kazoku. There’s not a lot of original material, but holding down the fort are the darkly mysterious Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou and the bishie swimmers of Free!. This is Random Curiosity’s Summer 2013 season preview! Hey, it’s hot outside, wouldn’t you rather stay inside and watch some anime? Well read on to find out what you should watch!

UPDATE: Episode counts have been added to some series.
