Senki Zesshou Symphogear – 06

「兆しの行方は」 (Kizashi no Yukue wa)
“Where the Signs Lead”

As the animosity between Kurisu and Hibiki continues to grow, somehow Miku’s worries about constantly being blown off seem to trump it. However, it’s taken Symphogear in a very welcome direction with the conflicts being less about the Noise and more about the characters themselves, especially in conjunction with the whole conspiracy involving Ryouko and “Finne”.

Black Rock Shooter – 02

「夜明けを抱く空」 (Yoake wo Idaku Sora)
“The Sky that Embraces Dawn”

If you’re not watching Black Rock Shooter simply because you were never caught up in the hype of Huke’s original character, I strongly suggest giving it a try. The anime combines beautiful cinematography with fluid animation in carefully choreographed fights, features amazing performances by Hanazawa Kana, Sawashiro Miyuki, and Kitamura Eri backed by a fantastic soundtrack by Supercell, and depicts a unique story that has some surprisingly dark and gruesome undertones. Very stylish, very refreshing. Potentially a must-watch show.

High School DxD – 06

「アクマ、やってます!」 (Akuma, Yattemasu!)
“My Job as a Devil!”

I hate to say it, but to me High School DxD works best when it’s light-hearted, ridiculous and focuses on comedy rather than the plot…as anime, at least. I can’t speak to the light novels, but even though I enjoyed the plot-centric episodes, I think I enjoyed this one even more.

Amagami SS+ plus – 06

「七咲逢 後編 トウソウ」 (Nanasaki Ai Kouhen – Tousou)
“Nanasaki Ai, Second Chapter – Escape”

If I were to make one complaint about Ai’s follow-up arc, it would be the somewhat nauseating sensation I get from watching how happy she is with Junichi. It’s almost like the two of them are sucking all the happiness around them and taking it for themselves.

Ano Natsu de Matteru – 05

「先輩はヒロイン。」 (Senpai wa Hiroin.)
“Sempai is the Heroine.”

This series sure takes me back — back when I watched romantic comedies and was anticipating heartbreak from all the teenage angst. Now that I’m older and (arguably) wiser, I know of a better solution to the problem — a harem ending with two guys and three girls. Problem solved.

Chihayafuru – 18

「はなそむかしのかににほいける」 (Hana zo Mukashi no Ka ni Nioikeru)
“The Plum Blossoms Still Smell the Same”

What seems clear is that what’s true in chess and tennis is true in Karuta – the best way to get better is to play people better than you are, as long as you pay close attention.  Mizusawa (Fight-o!) is the living proof of that, and they should be a formidable team if their competitive (and romantic) passions don’t break them apart.
