Branching Out, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love: Slice-of-Life

Yes, I’m sticking with the absurdly long titles for these posts. To make up for this, here’s a cute picture. Nyaaan~

And we’re back with another edition of Branching Out. This week, we’re going to be talking about the genre that is responsible for the creation of this series, Slice-of-Life! Get excited people. I know I am.

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? OF THE DEAD – 08

「フー、京子ちゃん合コンだゼッ!」 (Fuu, Kyouko-chan Goukon da ze!)
“Heh, It’s Party Time, Kyoko!”

At the risk of repeating myself, korezon is at its best when it takes the ridiculous (and ridiculously funny) gags it does so well and layers them on top of just enough plot to keep the story moving forward. This week we see that again with the return of Kyouko-chan, the masou shoujo with a heart of gold murder-hate-kill-stab!

Natsuiro Kiseki – 07

「雨にオネガイ」 (Ame ni Onegai)
“A Wish on the Rain”

I can’t help but think that the way this episode was told was sub-optimal, but the feelings it delivered were really nice. That’s why when I finished this episode and leaned back, I was quite satisfied, and it was only when I started thinking about what I was going to write that I was reminded of the flaws. That just goes to show you that yes, thinking too much probably is unhealthy sometimes. Whoops.

My Way or the Anime – Does This Need to Exist?

Objection! Does this post need to exist? o.O

Generally, I’m a pretty happy, optimistic guy, at least when it comes to anime. Sure, not every show is a masterpiece, but what’s the point of getting worked up about at TV show? It’s far better to just enjoy it for what it is and get worked up about important things, like why the couple who lives next door always comes back and blares music at 2 o’clock in the morning when I have work the next day and IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO PUT YOUR TRASH OUT IN THE NUDE!?!?

Ahem. Anyway…
