Tegami Bachi REVERSE – 05

It must be some sort of trend for aspiring Head Bees to end up as Marauders.

「リバース・ワールド」 (Ribaasu Waarudo)
“Reverse World”

It’s a Reverse World alright, not only in the sense of the anti-government organization revolting against underground spirit amber experiments on humans, but also in how nothing is what it seems. The strict social status requirements on stepping foot into Akatsuki already pose several questions on exactly what the government is doing there — or what it can get away with — but the appearance of an ex-Bee and dingo duo who are now inspectors from the capital does as well when they turn out to be Marauder spies.

Tegami Bachi REVERSE – 04

It has four eyes and it snatches children in their sleep!

「荒野幻灯台」 (Kouya Gentoudai)
“The Wild Phantom Lighthouse”

I’ve always described this series as “surreal” given the fantasy world it takes place in, but this is probably the first time that sentiment has extended to the supernatural realm. To that end, I just loved how this episode turned out to be absolutely nothing like I was expecting, beginning with Lag in the thick of things as a boy named Lugh living with his grandfather in a lighthouse.

Tegami Bachi REVERSE – 03

I’d like to see this sleeping posture when Lag and Niche are a bit more grown up.

「アジサイ色の絵テガミ」 (Ajisai-iro no Etegami)
“The Hydrangea Colored Picture-Letter”

As Lag struggles over what to write in the letter bullet, the series starts progressing down the episodic route with a request by Ray Attlee (Takayama Minami) to find out who’s been delivering hydrangea colored paintings to her.

Tegami Bachi REVERSE – 02

PANTS ON!

「パンツとパン」 (Pantsu to Pan)
“Underwear and Bread”

After going six months with Tegami Bachi and six months without, this second episode quickly reminded me of all the things I like about the series. Part of it is the somewhat laid-back nature, whereas another part of it is how it almost feels slice-of-life at times.

Letter Bee – 19

「病気のテガミバチと少女たち」 (Byouki no Tegami Bachi to Shoujo-tachi)
“A Sick Letter Bee and the Girls”

With Sylvette and Niche taking care of a sick Lag, this episode wasn’t so much about plot as it was about character development. Seeing as it involved the main characters of the story though, I enjoyed it more so than the plot-heavier episodic showings in recent weeks.

Letter Bee – 15

「愛の逃避行」 (Ai no Touhikou)
“The Elopement”

Lag sure has a knack for sticking his nose in other people’s business, something I only find tolerable because he’s a naive kid. His sense of righteousness left a man heartbroken this time around and he didn’t have anything to say to make him feel better either. The credits just started scrolling shortly after.
