After two full episodes Kirino-free, the stage was more or less set for our bratty heroine to make a return in the finale. I imagine no one in their right mind was expecting this true route to be completely devoid of Kirino’s presence, regardless of how refreshing it’s been with Sena substituting in as another younger sister with a rampant fetish.

This is my obligatory Kuroneko snapshot. While it doesn’t have her head turning seductively, she’s so cute with that happy smile of hers.

With Kirino still out of the picture, it looks like Kuroneko will get to keep the spotlight for just a bit longer. I admit that I’ve missed seeing and hearing Kirino — especially since she’s apparently turned a new leaf. That and I expected her to make some sort of appearance somewhere!

I also enjoy utilizing the filmstrip style.

With the disappearance of Kirino, focus quickly shifts towards Kuroneko, a girl that has been slightly ignored in favor of the sister, but now receives the spotlight in the “true end.” I haven’t been following the fanbase too closely with which character is loved the most, but I can gather that most sided with the reserved, slightly more complex, “Gokou Ruri.”

Divine thought I should take up an episode of Oreimo and the filmstrip layout for some further experimentation.
Conclusion: I $@#%ing hate setting up the filmstrip.

Is this the start of a dazzling high school life for Kyousuke? Kuroneko… chan?

“There’s No Way My Sister’s Life Counseling Ends Here”

The first of four Oreimo episodes that leads to the “true ending” of the series has been streamed, and it follows the same general flow as the episode twelve “good ending” we saw last season. What was interesting is how the first half was identical, before things starting veering off ever so slightly with Kyousuke missing the last train out of Akihabara and once again going above and beyond what’s expected of a typical older brother.

“There’s no way my sister would settle for such a normal ending.”

“There’s No Way My Sister’s Life Counseling Ends Here”

After the previous episode set things up for a conclusion with an improved sibling relationship, this television finale did just that with a little bit of a twist at the end. Leading up to that, it looked like we were possibly in for something more profound when Kirino started acting nicely towards Kyousuke, until the humor that this series is known for quickly took over.

So this is what it feels like to be seduced by a feline-like 15 year-old. *gulp*

“There’s No Way My Sister’s This Much of a Maid”

As the precursor to the television finale next time, this week’s episode paved way for both that and the DVD/BD one that we’ll see next year. In particular, Kirino finally showed some appreciation towards everything that Kyousuke’s done for her up until now. Unfortunately, the first half of this episode set back the potential impact of that gesture, as it left a negative impression that carried on easily into the second half.

Ooooh, that’s gotta hurt.

“There’s No Way My Sister’s This Into Cosplay”

I felt a bit shortchanged by an episode title that clearly suggested a certain younger sister would be doing some cosplaying, but where Kirino didn’t dress up as Meruru (or Rinko, lol), Kanako of all people made up for it. Things would have never gotten there if it wasn’t thanks to Ayase, whom I’m surprised Kyousuke will still meet up with and help out after that… incident.

With that look of disbelief, I can finally see that Kirino is related to Kyousuke. Who says they don’t look alike?

“There’s No Way My Sister is This Into Eroge”

As if to calm our souls since Kirino’s personality seems to have so few redeeming traits, the producers have graced us with an episode about her getting a taste of her own medicine. Given how fed up she got playing the latest kiss x kiss Re:Version eroge, I would’ve gladly bought a copy too. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that Kirino doesn’t even realize that the Rinko character (Igarashi Hiromi) is the spitting image of herself. If only there were a little sister character in this show who acts just like her, then she’d truly know what Kyousuke has to put up with day in day out. 100% tsun, 0% dere? Kirino, you’re more like 110% tsun, -10% dere.

Kyousuke attempts to represent Kirino as her brother, and Kuroneko follows up nicely in support.

“There’s No Way My Sister is Getting An Anime Adaptation”

There wasn’t a whole lot of interaction between Kousaka siblings this episode, but the way that Kyousuke continues to go out on a limb for Kirino even without her knowing about it never ceases to amaze me. In fact, it’s gotten to the point that Kuroneko even wishes she had an older brother like him, which goes to show that just about everyone’s taken notice to his constant sacrifices for her.

“There’s No Way My Sister is That Much of a Novelist”

You know how you sometimes get into an discussion with someone who seems to be beyond reason and start wishing for a gun so you can either shoot them or yourself? Well I felt sorry for Kuroneko this week as she had to deal with just that in Kirino, the self-proclaimed best novelist that has yet to be discovered.

Kirino didn’t have a lot of screen time in this one, but this more than made up for it.

“There’s No Way My Childhood Friend is This Cute”

As the title suggests, we have an episode on plain old Manami this week that depicts how she’d probably be the perfect match for Kyousuke. Together, they’d probably make one of the dullest couples ever (albeit most normal), which was made plainly obvious when her grandparents showed that they have more youth in them than they do. In the case of an age identity crisis, we have young geezers and old teenagers mixing things, and not a whole lot in the younger sister department.

In Kirino’s case, it’s technically flattering to be told that she loves you just as much as she does her porn collection.

With the beautiful and respectful Ayase showing a drastically different side of her and Kyousuke worrying about her friendship with Kirino ending more than she was, I would’ve thought that receiving a swift kick to the groin was a good sign for Kyousuke to start rethinking why he’s going to such lengths for his little sister.

As bad as this looks, at least his right hand didn’t get up underneath her bra. We’ll just ignore the knee pressed up against her crotch.

“There’s No Way My Sister Would Go To Stuff Like the Summer Comiket”

There’s bipolar and then there’s Kirino-level bipolar. Given the instant switch back to the Kirino of old, I’m starting to wonder how I was ever suckered in by that face. Damn that face. I can’t help but wonder if Kyousuke ever asks himself why he has to be the better person, because I sure as hell would be in his shoes. “Did you just call me a pervert when you’re the one getting porn secretly delivered!?”

Everyone’s probably thinking it, so I’ll just say it. “Moeeeeee~”

“There’s No Way My Little Sister is That Cute”

A mix of heartfelt drama and the usual comedic flair makes this week’s episode of Oreimo one to remember. I still found it a bit cheesy with the way Kyousuke “put his life on the line” to defend Kirino’s unusual hobby in the face of their no-nonsense father, but the end result that shows exactly where the title of this series comes from was so sweet. It was quite possibly the ultimate “dere to the tsundere” moment of the year.

Kuroneko said “handle name”, but all I heard was “handsonic” with the voice Hanazawa Kana used.

“There’s No Way I’d Go to An Offline Meeting with My Sister”

If there’s one thing that this episode of Oreimo reiterated to me, it’s that there will never — and I mean NEVER — be an offline Random Curiosity meet as long as I’m running this blog. The last thing I need is some uptight person giving me an earful about covering shows like Kanokon and kiss x sis and how I should have some shame, before going off on a tangent and preaching to me about what’s morally acceptable in this world.
