Random Musings: Site and Series Updates

  • moyism informed me of WordPress plugin that allows you to have paged comments. I installed it and fiddled around with it until it looked similar to the old style. So comments are now shown 20 to a page. I actually wouldn’t have considered using this plugin if last week’s GSD final episode post hadn’t gone over 100 comments. Anyway, if you experience any types of problems, leave a comment or send me an email.
  • Some of you may have noticed that I didn’t blog Zettai Shounen this week. I more or less have lost interest in this series, so I’m putting blogging of it on hold until either the story really picks up or the series ends, whichever comes first. I will still be watching this series, just not writing about it. Matthew does a thorough job on his posts, so refer there if you want to stay updated. For now, I’m biding my time on Fridays until the Hana Yori Dango drama starts in two weeks.
  • I have also axed Ginban Kaleidoscope as a potential series. I found nothing particularly wrong with the first episode, but it just felt really average all around. I was expecting something like Hikaru no Go, however the series comes off feeling more like Suzuka to me (don’t ask why, it just does). The only thing really amusing was the “Kiss my ass” bit, but the rest of the english just got on my nerves. moyism had similar feelings about it.
  • A bit of personal news: I was involved in a car accident yesterday, and my car is now more or less totaled. Fortunately, no one was hurt. But for the time being, I’m having to rely on my friends and others for transportation. This means that I have a lot less control over my schedule, meaning that certain posts over the next month or so may be written later than normal.
  • Random Musings: Bleach and New Shows

  • Just a heads up, tomorrow’s episode of Bleach is the hourlong special airing at a special time: 7:55PM to 8:54PM Japan Standard Time, which equates to 6:55AM to 7:54AM EST. How does this affect blogging? The show is airing an hour and a half later than usual, plus it’ll be an hour long (meaning twice the filesize). Compound that with my own schedule, and I don’t anticipate being able to have a blog out for it until sometime between 2PM to 4PM Eastern Standard Time.
  • I was going to pick up Angel Heart, and that would have become my new Monday show (to replace Aquarion). However, it’s turning out that Angel Heart’s first airing is really really hard to find. Instead, I may (keyword: MAY) pick up ToHeart2, and permanently move Angel Heart to Tuesdays (when it gets a second airing on a different station). That is, assuming I decide to blog both shows.
Scratch that, Angel Heart‘s still my Monday show. I watched ToHeart2, but it just isn’t my cup of tea. Yes yes I know, this coming from the person who’s also blogging DCSS, Canvas2, and SHUFFLE!. Maybe that’s precisely the reason though (h-game adapted series overload).

  • Since Maestro got me interested in the Nana manga all the way back in June, I’ve been reading a lot of Yazawa Ai’s mangas, including Gokinjo Monogatari, Kagen no Tsuki, Nana, and most recently, Paradise Kiss. Yazawa-san’s mangas are all very deep and engaging, with great story telling and lots of emotion. The art took a little getting used to, but I absolutely love it now. And her work is getting even more publicity now with the release of the upcoming Nana movie and Paradise Kiss anime series, which I will definitely be watching. ParaKiss even got a little 5 second commercial at the end of today’s episode of Honey & Clover. I’ll talk more about the series when it starts to air in October (and boy will I have a lot to say).
  • On a similar vein, I’ll be preparing a Fall 2005 Schedule sometime very soon. I probably won’t be picking up that many shows, as several of the current series I’m covering are still continuing. The only shows that I know I’m going to watch right now are the aforementioned Paradise Kiss, Black Cat, and Karin. The reason 舞-乙HiME isn’t on the list is because it’s another Thursday show. If I pick that up, that’s 4 Thursday shows (since both PK and BC are also Thurs, plus the ongoing SHUFFLE!). Anyway, I’ll talk about this more when more air dates get released and I decide on a preliminary schedule.
  • Bleach’s new timeslot for the fall is 19:30, one hour after when it currently airs. As it turns out, this doesn’t really affect me blogging the series since Daylight Saving Time kicks in in late October, which should mean status quo. That is, assuming I’m doing the time calculations correctly.

-Tomorrow’s posts (probably Sousei no Aquarion and Tsubasa Chronicle) will be delayed because I won’t have access to my computer until around 9PM EDT.

-Current manga series: Black Cat (thanks to moyism’s suggestion), Kamichama Karin (which is a very cute shoujo series), Koi Kaze (more siscon yay!), and Kamen no Maid Guy (The Masked Maid Guy). Kamen no Maid Guy is an interesting manga about a high school girl who has a masked bodyguard maid. Dom over at Megatokyo mentioned it in his rant on Friday , and it piqued my interest, particularly when Dom compared it to the comedic aspects of Full Metal Panic!

-I didn’t even notice it at the time, but it’s been over a month now since I’ve been on AnimeBlogger. I’d like again to thank Maestro4k for the fabulous hosting and support. And of course thanks also to everyone who reads this blog.

-And on a sad note tonight, Peter Jennings died earlier today of lung cancer. I am astonished because I didn’t think his condition was so serious. But it saddens me even more because I watched World News Tonight almost every night for some six years. Thank you Peter for all of your great reporting. See Article.

  • Gonna be a busy day today. GSD 38, Oku-sama wa Joshi Kousei 02, and DCSS 02.
  • This one’s for you Mentar. AnimeWaves has picked up Suzuka manga. They’ve got quite a bit of work ahead of them as Suzuka manga stretches some 7 or 8 volumes currently.
  • National Otaku Exam?! Article here with translation here.
  • If you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve added several Navigation pages to the sidebar. Included are an About This Site page, a Summer 2005 Schedule page, a forums link, and a Contact information page.

  • If you check Tokyo Tosho regularly, you know that it’s been down recently. Their temporary page until their domain gets back up is here.
  • I won’t be blogging Kamichu raw anymore. I honestly can’t pick up enough out of the series to make any decent blog out of it, but I will try to keep up with it subbed. To compensate (kinda), I think I’ll be sticking with D.C.S.S. raw even though Shinsen is putting it out at a decent speed, for now anyway. Also, there are four more new shows I have to consider, so I think I have more than enough on my plate. For the record, those shows are Suzuka (airing tomorrow), SHUFFLE! (airing Thursday), FMP! The Second Raid (a week from tomorrow), and Ichigo Mashimaro (a week from Thursday). Ichigo Mashimaro is the only really iffy one on that list, as I’ve tried to pick up the manga twice now and I just can’t get into it (no loli festishes here).
  • On a related note, I have the radio rip to D.C.S.S.’s opening song, サクライロノキセツ by yozuca*. The single’s not due out for a while and it hasn’t even been played on the show, so I can only assume it’s a radio rip. Anyway, I’ll consider torrenting it when TokyoTosho comes back up on its main domain (if someone doesn’t beat me to it). It’s a good song, reminds me a lot of Gundam SEED/Destiny type music.

No blogs today, unless something gets released later. For now, here’s some random stuff.Akatsuki Manga is putting out a manga called Naisho no Tsubomi by Yu Yabuuchi. Read this link. That’s right, it’s a sex-ed manga for elementary school girls. o_OI’m thinking of picking up Tenshi na Konamaiki manga and/or …
