Laughter and comedy take a supporting role to a more serious character development episode.

「男と女のアナグラム」 (Otoko to Onna no Anaguramu)
“Anagram of a Man and a Woman”

In terms of screenwriting and witty dialogue, Ano Natsu de Matteru and Rinne no Lagrange are easily my top two picks of the season, but Aquarion EVOL is really making a case for itself with Kawamori Shouji and Okada Mari working their magic.

「さらけだせ」 (Sarakedase)
“Expose Yourself”

Whoa whoa whoa. Someone needs to step in and tell Mix that Zessica can wear whatever the heck she wants. Let’s not get hasty now and tell her to cover up that midriff of hers. As far as I’m concerned, she’s free to tease us about what color her “underwear” is and tear off her clothes in battle to get a better feel for her surroundings (naked Gundam Newtype style).

「真夜中の少女」 (Mayonaka no Shoujo)
“Midnight Girl”

Whether it’s providing oodles of Zessica goodness from her seductive side to her absolutely hilarious scaredy cat side, utterly awesome super robot action with flashy transparent CG, or combining with the extremely young Yunoha Surool (Ogura Yui), Aquarion EVOL is here to deliver.

「生命のアジタート」 (Seimei no Ajitaato)
“Agitato of Life”

“Oh god, let me do it with a girl for a change! I’m sick of these sausage-fests!” says Andy, as he’s forced to miss out on experiencing this. Poor guy. Supporting characters never have it easy in the face of main characters, but boy did he get ripped off there. Complete highway robbery, Aquarion EVOL style.

「恋愛禁止令」 (Renai Kinshi Rei)
“Love Prohibition Decree”

The saying normally goes, “It’s okay to look, but not to touch”, but for the students at Neo Deava Academy, they’re not even allowed to think — not unless they want the chastity armband from hell to electrocute their horny asses. I think I speak for all of them when I say, can’t we all just get along and gattai like there’s no tomorrow?

「壁～conquer oneself～」 (Kabe)
“Wall ~conquer oneself~”

I’m still slowly working my way through Sousei no Aquarion, but even I could appreciate what an awesome throwback to the original this week’s episode of Aquarion EVOL was. Not only do we see the return of the magician-like high commander in Fudou Zen (Fujiwara Keiji), but we see it in style with the infamous “Infinity Punch” that circles the globe several times over before tearing down the Berlin Wall. “And then he proclaimed, ‘Let there be illicit sexual relationships!'” (Fujun Isei Kouyuu!)

「トキメキ指数☆急上昇」 (Tokimeki Shisuu ☆ Kyuujoushou)
“Excitement Index ☆ Sudden Rise”

Forget chastity belts, the students at Neo Deava have to overcome the freaken Berlin Wall if they want any chance of hooking up with the opposite sex. orz
