Given Nekozawa Umehito’s prominent role in the drama, it doesn’t come as any real surprise that the episode about him and his younger sister Kirimi (Sawada Mone) would be adapted. While I don’t really care too much about Nekozawa’s character, it is nice to hear Ryuusei Ryou use a normal voice for a change.

The first month of a new season is always one of the most interesting. It’s the perfect opportunity to get into a bunch of new shows, yet it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of them. Here’s what we have to say about all the ones we’re following, which will hopefully give you a better idea as to what’s worth watching.

With Kiiragi’s recent departure, I figured I’d better take part in this season-end monthly post so that there isn’t a sharp decline in the amount of shows being discussed. Some readers also expressed interest in hearing my thoughts on the shows that I’m only watching (a good 16 of them), so it was now or never if I was going to say anything about them at all. Of the 30 shows I was personally watching, 22 of them concluded this month. Along with Prooof and Takaii’s input, this is a hefty post full of final impressions. I hope you find it insightful in some way.

I wasn’t planning to take part in the monthly posts during my break, but I figured I should at least chime in for this April one since it coincides with the start of the new season. Whether or not I’ll be taking part in the later ones this season is up in the air at the moment.
That said, I should also point out that this Retrospective Look is being published later than we would’ve liked due to all the writers’ personal schedules, meaning there’s a bit of overlap with May. Most of us have already watched the latest episodes from this past week, but the impressions below only include episodes that aired up to and including Sunday, May 1st. The one exception is Moshidora, since it made more sense to talk about all ten episodes in one go. Please refer to the episode numbers if there’s any confusion as to which episodes are being discussed.
As per the updated season schedules, the included schedule now provides a quick overview of which writer is watching what series, in addition to the total number of shows being watched for each writer in the legend.
For this April edition in particular, other changes compared to last month are listed below.

Drama class is tougher than you think |
There’s a lot which goes into making anime, and one thing arguably more important than many are the voices of its characters. Good or evil, stunning or ugly, a voice can often make or break a production, and we here at Random Curiosity certainly have those we consider the best of the bunch. Summer is the season of waves-surfing the water waves, suffering the heat waves, and of course-tuning into new anime on the air waves. This summer we have some sizzling sequels accompanied by several refreshingly cool new series. Wondering which of the many series to cool off in the summer heat with? Look no further – we can help you with that!
One of the biggest sequels to look out for this summer is Made in Abyss as Riko and Reg continue on their perilous and gripping journey. Other popular and well-loved shows returning from “vacation” are Hataraku Maou-sama!!, Love Live! Superstar!! and even the surprise continuation of Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e. Likewise for fans of older anime, we have a brand new addition to the Tokyo Mew Mew franchise with Tokyo Mew Mew New and even a new rendering of a classic franchise in the Kamen Rider spin-off Fuuto Tantei. Plus to round things out, the highly anticipated adaptation of Hoshi no Samidare.
But wait, theres more! Can’t get enough soccer with Aoi Ashi? Then try this upcoming soccer series Shoot! Goal to the Future. Missing school during the summer months? Have some cute shogi club romance with Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru and comedian club escapades in Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Alas, it is winter (depending on where you live) with bone-chilling winds blowing their way through the bare, dreary trees. Like the winter trees, this anime season is certainly barer than the Fall season. But never fear- there are enough series to brighten the long, dark days and somber landscapes! Just as there are children waiting all year with bated breath to open their holiday gifts, we anime fans have been waiting eagerly for some of the big sequels airing this season – Shingeki no Kyojin, Vanitas no Karte, and JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 6: Stone Ocean (if that second half drops this season of course!). There’s nothing like warming up in the frosty outdoors through some blood-pumping exercise, and for fans of baseball and Danganronpa, the extreme baseball themed series Tribe Nine by Danganronpa’s creator is likely to be of interest.
In the deep of winter, there is nothing cozier than curling up with a cup of tea and a good history book. Or you can skip the books entirely and go for an alternate (and not entirely historically verifiable) adaption of history with the tragedy of Richard the Third in Baraou no Souretsu. Sabiuki Bisco offers a fun(gal) take on post-apocalyptic survival with humanity’s last hope hinging on the battle between good and evil mushrooms. Meanwhile, Orient poses an intriguing question of what happens when the roles of good guys and bad guys become reversed in society. To get in on some magic action fighting against youkai, check out Saiyuuki Reload: Zeroin, an alternate story in the Saiyuuki Reload universe. And, probably most importantly for this time of year, remember love comes in all shapes and sizes, with a lid for every pot – which seems to be the case for the gruesomely romantic pursuit between two killers in Koroshi Ai, the costuming enthusiasts in Sono Doll wa Koi wo Suru, and cutesy BL contender Sasaki to Miyano. So, a bit about myself and my anime first love series, it was definitely Dragon Ball Z that hooked me into this beautiful world. My clearest memory as a 5-year-old was seeing the Cell Games Saga airing on Cartoon Network in the early hours of the morning as I headed out to kindergarten. Seeing the awe-inspiring action and sheer talent in the animating of this series was out of this world for my baby eyes to comprehend. Growing up with two older brothers, DBZ played a huge part in getting us into play fights at home, karate classes and even shaping some of our ‘heroic’ morals and sense of justice.
