A Quick Note on Comments and the Spam Filter

There have been several people recently who have been caught by the spam filter for spamming even though they weren’t doing so. If this happens to you, then the spam filter might also retroactively remove all of your past comments, and at first glance that can look like that there’s someone actively moderating or censoring the comments. There is not.

The spam filter is programmed to catch bots, and so if you post too fast after loading a page or too frequently within a small time-frame, it’ll think you’re a bot and will flag you. If you see that your comment has been marked for moderation, or if you get a message saying that you’ve been caught by the spam filter, don’t fret and try to repost it right away – that’ll just get all of your messages deleted automatically. The best way to rectify any comment problems is to email me with your username and email, and I’ll correct it immediately. Incidentally, I don’t plan on changing the spam filter anytime soon because it succeeds at catching 99.9% of the real spam, and there’s a ton of that.

Focal Point – Acting Out Anime

When tragedy strikes, most people will try to find a scapegoat; it’s human nature to point a finger and blame someone or something, rather than chalk it up to chance or luck (even saying it’s “fate” or “God’s will” is giving a reason for why misfortune occurs). But when other people with specific agendas (i.e. politicians, and sometimes a lawyer) shift the focus of blame to a particular entity YOU like or are a fan of, then problems arise.

Movies, video games, and anime have been targeted as the reasons for school shootings, the corruption of youth, and even public massacres, like the recent one in Akihabara, and when such atrocities happen, many FANS who enjoy the unjustly accused medium of entertainment rise up in its defense, crying out, “You don’t know what you’re talking about. There’s no evidence that watching something violent will make you violent! Don’t take away our entertainment, because some idiot who likes the same things we do did something stupid and tragic.”

What I have a problem with is that these FANS only care about losing their precious entertainment, instead of examining and acknowledging the individual behind the tragedy and the actions needed to be done in order to maintain a smoothly running and orderly society.

The Daily Dose

  • Unless there’s some big news, I likely won’t be posting any Daily Doses over the next few days so that I can work on the Summer 2008 Preview instead. There’s only half as many new shows as the spring, but it still takes a lot of time to research and write up.
  • ALIVE Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen will be getting an anime.
  • Dengeki Online has an interview with the main cast of the upcoming third season of Zero no Tsukaima. Supposedly the themes for this time around are “love” and “ero”.
  • The official Macross Frontier website has uploaded a preview of the upcoming ALL THAT VF short I mentioned a couple of days ago.
  • TV Asahi has opened their website for the new Someday’s Dreamers anime starting in July. As MOON PHASE notes though, both it and the official site are still rather sparse.
  • ZAKZAK has some screenshots of the upcoming second Mai-Otome S.ifr episode, as well as an post-recording interview with the cast.
  • Naruto Shippuuden‘s new ending theme starting in July will be NICO Touches the WallsBroken Youth.
  • If you find anything that you think I should mention on any particular day’s Daily Dose, please send me an email with the words “ANIME NEWS” somewhere in the subject line.
