Ozuma and Uchuu Kyoudai have already premiered along with a few other shows and we’ll be seeing a deluge of new spring shows following suit beginning April 1st — so here’s a quick overview of what the Random Curiosity writers will be covering this season.

Like previous seasons, this is only a tentative overview of RandomC’s blogging plans for the new season. We also plan on writing about the first episode of some other shows that we’re not covering, so if something catches our interest, things might be shifted around and this schedule will be updated to reflect any changes.

The major thing you’ll probably notice is that we have seven talented new writers who just came on board. Check out their introductory posts and say hello if you haven’t already, and if you do have any questions or suggestions for them in their posts, please remember to be kind and respectful.

Updates:
04/01: For now, coverage of Gundam AGE has been dropped.
04/02: Forgot to mention Guardian Enzo has dropped Area no Kishi .
04/18: Shining Hearts dropped.
06/11: BakaMochi has picked up Kuroko no Basuke in place of Guardian Enzo.

    1. Well AGE is getting boring. I mean can’t Sunrise put something together new? Gundams are fine but, you know, they should add some twist here and there in the plot.

Also the designs are getting meh. Rinne’s mech designs are 10x better.

    2. Gundam AGE getting boring? Really?

While I cannot wait for the next episode to air…

I have to admit thought that Gundam AGE was somewhat boring initially, but the last 4-5 episodes changed my impression completely.

      1. There’s always shades of white and black. And don’t forget about patterns! Checkered, diamonds, chessboard, concentric circles, bubbles. Hell, you can have different colored patterns! The possibilities are endless!

  1. queen blade come on please give it a chance. there is more to it than fanservice i watched all the original series during the weekend and i can say for sure you can never judge a anime until you watch it.

  2. Lol, love how the “Divine” light blue legend is still under the table even though he isn’t blogging anymore. Sigh, everybody misses him… 🙁

Aside from that, it’s a shame that no one’s covering the two classics Saint Seiya and Lupin; kudos to Zephyr though for covering the third retro-style show, Ozuma

    Zen
    1. Maybe his jersey number schedule color will be retired after an emotional ceremony featuring his greatest posts ever, with none other than Omni as a guest star…

      Kit-A-Ron-Ron-Kat
  3. Divine: 0 T_T

Interesting choice selections though, each writers’ pick almost seems to fall under a certain niche if one scrutinizes carefully.

Let us hope that no pigeons were harmed in the process of selecting who does what, especially when it comes down to the 6th holy grail war.

Looking forward to the various coverages guys! and gals! and traps

    1. At first I thought the numbers in the legend were meant to indicate what no. writer it was instead how many shows they were blogging. But yes Divine = 0 ):

      Who’s the trap!?

    1. YES!! Kimi to Boku 2 dropped! Thank Anime goddess!!

We have enough of feminization of hetero males as it is! I can’t take these hetero-sissy boys anymore. Leave that in Japan’s mainland culture, thank you very much! Now if you guys just drop Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? OF THE DEAD, it’d just perfect~~~!

And now I just need to duck from incoming negs, but had to get that off my chest. Thank you!!

      RC fan56
      1. 29, that’s it? Well then Kimi to Boku 2 surely deserved to be dropped. I’ve always thought that show is for a very tiny segment of niche audience and this only confirms it. My fear of incoming negs was unwarranted. Good thing I didn’t trash KorewaZombie, which I bet that one has at least 10 times more of audience (No, that’s not a compliment, you guys!)

        RC fan56
    2. I might be more forgiving if Kimi to Boku 2 were Shōjo or even Josei. Then I will get it. As it is, it’s Shōnen and such shows give me a massive internal eyeroll. Massive~~~!!!!

      1. Heh, GF Fantasy is technically a shounen mag, but they also publish Kuroshitsuji, Pandora Hearts and Nabari no Ou, among others. To say there’s a lot of crossover is an understatement.

The closest comp I would make for KtB is what Oofuri represents for sports manga (though Oofuri is certainly better). It may be about boys, but it’s hilariously idealized and they’re boys drawn – let’s be honest – from a female POV. I don’t think that’s a bad thing – both series are perfectly entertaining and Oofuri is a notch above that. But it is nice to have at least the occasional show like Danshi Koukousei that’s more authentically about the guy experience.

  4. Kind of surprised nobody is picking up Saint Seiya or Lupin III. Not that either are shows I personally would watch because I don’t have much familiarity with the originals, but the two are continuations of what are basically classics. In my opinion that doesn’t speak too highly of the diversity of writers here.

    Nerf
    1. Totally agreed that it’s a pity, but I do think that our crew here at RC is pretty diverse; in their defense, it does take a special kind of person to venture out of his/her comfort zone and watch something that they

      …don’t have much familiarity with…

Zephyr is blogging Ozuma and Unlisted is watching Saint Seiya; that gives the two of them big points in my books in terms of diversity of taste…and Enzo did blog UN-GO a season or two ago…

And then there is the question of general popularity to consider. The purpose of a blog is to attract as many readers as possible; therefore, it makes little sense to blog something that would attract few readers. I remember back when Enzo was blogging UN-GO, there were weeks when he got fewer than 20 comments- which is abysmal for a site as popular as RC- and, I would imagine, also does very little to motivate the blogger…

      ___________________________________________________________________________________________

      Having said that…

Mr. Average Joe stumbles across an old bone sticking out of a rock; to him the bone is worthless, so he kicks it aside…but then his neighbor who is a paleontologist comes along and sees the bone lying on the sidewalk. He picks it up and brings it to his lab for further study, recognizing it as a rare fossil, a key to unlocking the secrets of evolution. Only the paleontologist, with his exceptional insight in the field of paleontology, obtained either through nature or nurture, recognized the value of the fossil and dared to take that extra step of picking it up and studying it.

The same goes for classical anime, or any other unconventional genre; it takes a person with exceptional insight to discern their hidden value, and venture out of his/her comfort zone by taking the extra step to seek out this hidden, unique treasure by actually watching these things.

Most current-day anime fans (myself included) are too young to have had very much familiarity with these classical-(style) shows- if any at all- so it’s totally understandable and acceptable that most people can’t get into them. But if anyone feels like challenging him/herself this season and learning a thing or two about anime history, then I would urge you to consider giving Saint Seiya, Ozuma and Lupin III (Or any one or combination thereof) a try…I, for one will be watching all three…

      Zen
      1. It is a shame UN-GO didn’t attract more interest, because it was an exceptionally odd and interesting series. Flawed, but fascinating – some of the most astute political commentary I’ve seen in an anime in ages.

I’m blogging Ozma too, and I did cover the first ep of Saint Seiya – not sure yet if I’ll keep it up (thought it was pretty good for what it was). As for Lupin, TBH I’d feel better about it if Okada Mari weren’t involved. It seems like a terrible fit to me.

      2. Over at LiA? Sweet, if you choose to continue blogging Saint Seiya, you’ll have my complete support (for what its worth) :Z ; I’ll try to post something insightful about it every week and hopefully get more people interested…

        Zen
      3. Saint Seiya not popular enough? That’s arguably true. Let me rant a bit:

The whole point of Saint Seiya Omega is to reintroduce itself to the world with a new original story and a completely renewed main cast. If anything, THIS is the time to be talking about Saint Seiya. I just feel we are missing the new “Big 3” here and that’s why seeing niche shows like AKB0048 having full coverage is kind of a let down (for me). It is extremely popular outside the USA, and I’m sure it will attract far more readers than some forgettable slice-of-life shows aimed at the Type B Otaku.

I don’t know if you would consider that /a/’s opinion has some sort of value, but every Saint Seiya Omega thread there is getting over 300 replies of civilized discussion. The show was very well received even the by biggest SS geeks.

I’m very satisfied with RandomC’s picks. That’s why for now I’ll just hope Omega gets a deserving First Impression post. And possibly, a writer will make an effort and pick it up as a 3rd series to cover.

And about Lupin III, I’m not as informed about it but it seems it’s in a similar situation.

TL;DR: RandomC should also cover Saint Seiya Omega.

      4. @Enzo

As for Lupin, TBH I’d feel better about it if Okada Mari weren’t involved. It seems like a terrible fit to me.

I had pretty much the same feelings as you did when I first found out that Okada Mari was going to be responsible for the story. But after thinking things through a little, I’m now cautiously optimistic.

        Here’s why:

        @xRichard

I don’t know if you would consider that /a/’s opinion has some sort of value, but every Saint Seiya Omega thread there is getting over 300 replies of civilized discussion. The show was very well received even the by biggest SS geeks.

Even if we assume for the sake of argument that /a/’s opinion is completely worthless in terms of informative value (which is preposterous; every opinion tends to be worth something), the numerical significance of 300 replies cannot be ignored. Clearly Saint Seiya does at least have a significant degree of cult popularity.

However, it remains questionable whether this level of popularity is sufficient to justify committing to blogging the show weekly when measured against factors like how difficult it would be to blog this show due to a lack of familiarity, and whether the blogger’s limited time would be better spent blogging something with significantly more popularity that would invariably translate into many more views and comments.

Deciding to blog something like Lupin III or Saint Seiya is a big decision, and should therefore be subject to careful cost-benefit analysis. For example, if I were a blogger who had to choose between blogging Saint Seiya and Lupin III, I’d choose the latter because of my familiarity with the franchise.

Not saying that I wouldn’t love to see these two shows blogged, I totally would, but doing so is (arguably) infeasible from a blogger’s perspective. Just playing the devil’s advocate here…

  5. I use a program on my Mac called f.lux that changes the color settings at night, so that the display is easier on your eyes. One of the side effects is that colors tend to stand out more, greens in particular. When viewing the schedule with f.lux off, it was very difficult to differentiate the greens and pinks/purples from one another, but when f.lux was on, no problem.

Well, I thought that was interesting.

    cancerlad
    1. Sounds like a program I would use, and not just because my handle is in there. I use a Java script that is kinda a bookmark, kinda a page utility. It makes the text off-white and the background black, and which makes it easier on the eyes and even highlights the light-blue background the author of each post gets in the comments. But it hides half of the colors in the schedule for some reason, so I might use f. lux. Or I might just change my monitor setting, heh.

  6. Red, red-orange, orange, yellow, lime, green, teal, blue-green, blue, purple, lavender, pink, brown, and gray.

    I’m dizzy…

…but not dizzy enough to write! See you all this week! :3

    Zanibas
  7. Inazuma Eleven GO 2 Chrono Stone…really shouldn’t be on here in the first place, as it is just going to be a new arc in the current series that started airing last year. It doesn’t air at 9:00 either, but at 19:00. And I thought the new arc would begin next week Wednesday but that is something I’m not sure about.

    Kiseki
  8. Ooh, how interesting. Looks like all the series I’ll be watching are going to be blogged by different writers. Looking forward to a great season, guys!

Just noticed that for the first time since Enzo joined RC, I’ll only be watching one of the series he’s blogging here… Makes me kinda sad, haha.

    Faye
      1. Ah, it seems I’ve misread the chart. Glad you’ll be blogging Apollon! But yeah, you’re probably right about Kuroko, as is the fate of most sports anime, though that’s actually the other one I’ll be reading from you 🙂 I also plan on watching Kimi to Boku S2, Fate/Zero S2, Tsuritama, and Hyouka, so I’ll be sure to drop by LIA as well if you’ll be blogging any of those there.

        Faye
  9. The thing that matter is that Accel World is being covered.
And the better ting is that most of the better anime series are being covered.
So why not look on the brighter side.
So I would have liked to say but……..
With Divine missing how can I be happy
    ………
The new and old writers – Best of Luck – You gotta change this melancholic feeling of mine!

  10. Having a hard time figuring out who’s covering what :/

So verdant’s the lucky one who got F/Z s2 huh. Looking forward to it.
And this means Enzo dropped Area no Kishi. Oh well. At least he’ll cover Kuroko.
Seems like there are only 2 shows on my watch list that’s not being covered.
This means I’ll be reading almost all the posts here. Should be fun.

    Gundam AGE ;_;

  11. Only going to blog the talk-of-the-town shows huh? Looks like I’ll be spending more time around Cherrie’s pad more than anyone else… I can’t wait to see your input in Sankarea…

    The Moondoggie
  12. na na na na na na hey hey hey goodbye PG-gundam age series we hardly knew ye.

indeed good news i’ve read on this yea better jump to HD version of GS.

as for looking to see sankarea see mention Jormungand hmm i’m bit hmm on give half now half later still wonder should i watch?

bit huh you left out QB’s rebel & fujiko anime give i’m commit to QB’s rebel while fujiko at least need some hmm to convince to watch.

& yet still don’t know watch girlfriend x due saliva/drool mention still like WHAT?

    MAR-KLAC-VELOUS DE-KLAC-CADE
    1. So how many of us are willing to rebel for not including QB Rebellion?

Try reading the manga of MGX. I guess the drool part will rub other people the wrong way, but it’s not that bad. Think Sankarea, only drool/romance instead of zombie.

      The Moondoggie
      1. ugh i don’t manga book of any other anime just only GS series manga.

besides only few eps on those 5 mention then i see which i’m commit to spring give all in on qb’s rebel & sankarea.

        MAR-KLAC-VELOUS DE-KLAC-CADE
  13. The abundance of writers make it available to cover most of the shows people are interested, including me, thanks!!! But I’m really surprised AKB0048 is covered while others like Kimi to Boku is not o.o Any reason behind choosing AKB0048 in particular? lol

    Kaka
    1. It’s really a question of having at least one writer interested enough in a show to make it one of the 2 or 3 they blog. I’ll watch KtB II and probably blog it in digest form at LiA, but there were just too many shows this season that interested me more. I suspect many of the writers felt the same.

    1. This is such a useless question but just out of curiosity, do you guys choose your own colours? I can’t help but feel that they somewhat correspond to your personalties. At least, my impression of your personalities.

      magenta
  14. Jormungand will be the best series of the season. Not only because it’s by the Steins;Gate people, but it’s a kick-ass manga along the same vibes of Black Lagoon or Eden. Sorry Fate/Zero.

    Zero
      1. I can’t wait to find out what the Sword Art Online theme is going to be. Perhaps they’ll do 2 or three theme songs seeing how I’m pretty sure the first volume isn’t going to take 26 episodes. They’ll probably cover SAO, ALO, GGO and maybe Mother’s Rosario. I wonder if there might be an Accel vs SAO cross over OVA.

        Suppa Tenko
    1. Some shows like Zetman already aired. Other were only pre-air which is incomplete yet. One example is Accel World which already pre-aired 2 episodes though they didn’t put the OP and Ending theme.

      Whats pl0x?

      Croos
  15. Worth your limited busy time to watch: Uchuu Kyoudai, Fate/Zero

Deeply flawed: Accel World, Ozuma, Mirai Nikki
Either massive internal eyeroll inducing or boring nonsense genetic mumbo-jumbo: Kimi to Boku 2, A-Channel: +Smile, Mouretsu Pirates, Aquarion Evol, Natsuiro Kiseki, Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki
absolute pure grade garbage: Shiba Inuko-san, Gon, Recorder to Randoseru, Queen’s Blade, Kill Me Baby
    And the rest…

    RC fan56
      1. Nah, I’m just very sensitive against BS shows. I see horse manure, I call it -and there are so many every season. Even if I were to pick 2 out of 40 as being “great”, that’s like 5% for greatness. That’s generous assessment, you know. If everything is so great, it must mean the quality standard is low. Not everyone can nor have time to watch through all the subpar stuff, just because they are there.

        RC fan56
    1. To be fair, it’s fine to leave out ‘subpar’ shows though it seems you’re going to leave out the ‘on par’ shows too. I hope you give them a chance or follow them on RC.

Those BS shows weren’t made specially for you by the way, there are lots of people who enjoy different things than you do. Entertainment is a simple but complicated subject.

      KJacket
      1. Of course, it’s my opinion. Just saying something sucks doesn’t mean anyone has to agree to it. So no need to point out that they were NOT made for my taste. Geez. Don’t take it so personally just because I happen to dislike shows that you may or may not watch. I’m not exactly bad mouthing any viewers for watching, am I? If anything, I trashed some shows and unless you personally made them, I don’t see any reason to get so worked up about. It’s just some random shows, not your lives.

        RC fan56
    2. Have fun watching that boring Uchuu Kyoudai bullshit. Going to space? That’s it? Really? BORING!

Now Accel World: That’s real value right there. 3D graphics coupled with 2Dand we have the same animation that that we can get from the best games out there. Coupled with an intriguing storyline? The best of this season yet.

      The Moondoggie
      1. there there, child. Feel better now? Don’t take criticism on your favorite show so personally. People may misunderstand that you are on payroll for Accel World, you know.

        some guy
  16. Good luck to the team for the new season, though I admit that I hoped for Divine to continue blogging Fate/Zero.
@Stilts: Hope you can also find the time to blog the Zombie OVA. Doesn’t look like Takaii covered it.

    boingman
    1. Nah I was sick of and am probably still sick of the Saber Lily Banner. I mean I liked it at first of course, but I would rather something Fresh. It can be Fate/Zero, but just another picture. Now, how about them side banners while we’re at it. Is it only Divine that has control of them or can the other authors edit the page design if he’s away/not active or even lurking?

      blt
      1. Hmm, then what about 7 Servants with their respective Masters for side banner? And for main banner, maybe from Accel World or Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? OtD, based on the result of recent polls? Okay, writers, make your choice. *with the tone of Jigsaw from SAW*

  17. Have to say,the retro shows this season does have something up their sleeves and Random Curiosity should really give the new Lupin III a go as well.

The art work is exquisite and they somehow retains the vibe of the pencil works on the character design sheets in actual animation; On top of that, the plot is very mature and smart. Fujiko had to kill in this very first episode and the tricks Lupin & Fujiko use are actually smart as well as over the top; The design is filled with beautiful details, every thing from weapons/light boxes/vehicles down to a remote bomb detonator (which probably would only be used for once) received a lot of attention; last but not least, the music fits really well.

    hoh
  18. No more gundam age? SAD. I’ll agree it was a boring start, but this arc is great, and the final third will prove to be the best yet. Is it the PG reputation? Meh.. I hope someone has the time and faith to bring it back, or at least blog it every once in a while. It was the main show I was reading here. (mecha junkie what can I say?) I am looking forward to Eureka Seven though, so there’s that. Lost one, gained one.

    whatt!!
    1. We get you that you hated Shirokuma Cafe, my friend. I like how you’re obsessed enough to go around different posts to write this. This takes focus and dedication!

      some guy
    1. You are correct, it is the broadcast time. 25:05 means 1:05am into the next day and 27:22 is 3:22am. Usually you would stay up to watch it rather than sleep at 9pm and wake up 4 hours later just to watch the show. Also, the show could be filed under the same day so that you wouldn’t miss it rather than early next day because you may not read the schedule for the next column and by the time you wake up to read it, the show would’ve finished airing a long time ago.
