Hanasaku Iroha – 10
「微熱」 (Binetsu)
“Slight Fever”
Isn’t it lonely when you wake up and don’t hear any voices?

「日常 10」 (Nichijou 10)
“My Ordinary Life 10”
I’ll admit that I have slowly been warming up to Mai. While I’m a big fan of being a good friend, I was dying when she was being a total jerk without being a jerk. In a match of wits, I don’t think anyone would be able to stand up to Mai and it was pure genius what she did to Yuuko this week.
「プレゼント – Abstract Art」 (Present)
“Present – Abstract Art”
While I can’t put my finger on it, something didn’t feel quite right this week. Unlike Nichijou which survives off of its unique humor and extreme randomness, A-Channel just doesn’t feel right with all these different random elements coming into play. At the same time, I wish that they’d integrate the “different then the norm” pairings. Instead of seeing Nagi with Yuuko and Tooru with Run, it was really fun watching things get jumbled up.
「自由の鎖(スカーチェイン)」 (Jiyuu no Kusari (Sukaa Chein))
“Chain of Freedom (Scar Chain)”
Shiro steps in to save Ganta from the super priest at the last moment; Ace Man is on the scene~
「ファントムの幽霊に導かれる」 (Fantomu no Yūrei ni Michibika Reru)
“Guided by the Phantom’s Ghost”
After what cruelty the Marquis proved he was capable of last week, I was thinking Victorique might be in some similar levels of pain herself, but everything went better than expected.
「ツィオルコフスキーの祈り」 (Tsiorukofusukī no Inori)
“Tsiolkovsky’s Prayer”
I suppose it’s clever that this four episode arc was really about Meme, who apparently spent 28 years before coming up with an idea to stop grandma from thinking about the gods taking away her life, an idea which was only triggered by Yamam- Ashiro anyway.
As I alluded to last month, I’m bowing out of the monthly posts for the rest of the season, as these three months are all about Kiiragi, Prooof, and Takaii’s coverage of anime. Please see below for a comparative take on all the shows they’re watching.
Changes since last month:
Note: Once again, please be considerate of others who may be interested in picking up a series after reading about it here by placing discussion of any major spoilers in <spoiler></spoiler> tags. There will be little to no tolerance for anyone intentionally spoiling the enjoyment of others.
「Confidence (信用)」 (Shinyou)
Given the more passive episodes recently, the collapse of the Southeast Asian Financial District was quite an abrupt turn of events.
「I wonder」
Everything went simpler than expected. I realized I’ve been thinking “too big” for the plot, and it backfired on me hard this episode. With only three episodes remaining, this was much like a turning point, with scenes of tears back to back from characters.
「死線ノ涯」 (Shisen no Hate)
“Horizon of Death”
The story has shifted away from Zess since the capture of Cleo and introduction of Borcuse in the third movie, and this fifth one continues on that trend. In his place, we have Girge bumping heads with Rygart, and ultimately changing his attitude toward the war between Athens and Krisna altogether.
Note: It’s a bit difficult to look at fifth movie alone when I’ve already watched the sixth one that was streamed on Bandai Channel, but I wanted to talk about the final two movies separately. I’ll have more thoughts on the ending later on and how it left the series as a whole unfinished, should I decide to cap off the much lower quality stream. (The BD release isn’t until July 22.)
