Bleach 505 – The Fire

Wow, this chapter was, how should I describe it? – A let down, maybe? I don’t think the chapter itself was disappointing; it’s just that I was looking forward to Zaraki’s battle, so this definitely failed to satisfy me. I’m not sad because Zaraki lost or anything; I didn’t have any special expectations concerning the battle’s result, but I’m very sad that we weren’t given a chance to see Zaraki fight. I don’t think he ended up like this simply from the single attack we saw a few chapters ago. He must’ve struggled, and I would’ve loved to read more about that.

Aside from the disappointment, it was nice to see the captain commander encouraging everyone (not the villains) on the battlefield with his presence and participation on the field. It’s fascinating how something simple as one’s presence can be so significant. With some of the morale restored in Soul Society, I expect to see some Vandenreich members having some disadvantages during their fights. Also, I’m assuming that this new “strength” will give Unohana’s squad some time to heal the fallen members – true to the Bleach style!

Now that the captain commander is up against the Vandenreich leader, Juha Bach (I’m not sure if this name is correct), I hope we’ll get an impressive battle in the upcoming chapter(s). Both men are strong leaders who are on par so hopefully, it won’t be as one-sided as the previous battles have been. I’m just wondering how Ichigo will make his entry in this… Also, Ishida should be involved in this arc; we’ve had too many chapters without him, so I think it’s time for him to show his face! Anyway, next week we’re probably up for a death match – looking forward to that!

I don’t even know if his beating happening off panel was a good thing or not.

  • August 29, 2012 at 12:14 pmFinrandojin

    Haha… Juha is a Finnish name :D

    LOL this comment on Tumblr:

“Uhm. Hello, Tite Kubo? Ya forgot about me in 505. I’ll just, ya know…hang around with this sword at my face. No big deal”.
    - Urahara Kiisuke

    XD.

I wanna know whatever happened to that pikachu.

  • August 29, 2012 at 12:18 pmMoridin

It was also interesting that the Captain Commander knows Jura Bach from a millennium ago… guess well see what’s going on. I’m personally hoping for some exposition these chapters have felt like thin gruel lately.

  • August 29, 2012 at 12:21 pmGermanguy

I dont think, that Ishida should appear soon. Looks like thee Sternenritter, know him very well. And they sure have some tricks in their sleeves, to “Abuse” him, or direct Control his Powers.

Ichigo… well, i think he will made his “appear” when Captain Commander get in Pinch, and he storms in to save the “Day”. But first, i hope to see an Awesome Fight, that make an Captain Commander proud.

And Heal Squad. They need a “Save surrounding” to do their Magic. And this is still Battlefield…

    • August 29, 2012 at 12:23 pmGermanguy

And, the Scene after where the Sternenritter hold Kenpachi in middle Air… Is that his Sword or a Fake Though, that Kenpachi hears?

    • August 29, 2012 at 3:00 pmKarmafan

They also need to explain Ichigo’s dad and mom (some speculate she was some sort of a hollow) and how that all figures into this as well.

  • August 29, 2012 at 12:56 pmCruiser

Was it just me, or was the captain-commander having a “Looking awesome” competition with himself throughout this chapter? XD

  • August 29, 2012 at 1:07 pmceleci01

Soul reaper: “Yay! Kenpachi, the only strong person without bankai, is here, we’re saved!”
Another soul reaper: “Hey, look over there, is that the head captain?”
    (both look away)
    “We’re bound to win now”
    (looks back)
    “WTF!? How did this happen?”

  • August 29, 2012 at 1:35 pmLK

Kubo Tite is master of still panel bubble heads and side profile view. Nothing to see here, move along.

  • August 29, 2012 at 1:48 pmAnon

Why isn’t Yamamoto the main character of Bleach?

    • August 29, 2012 at 4:17 pmY

Clearly he is being saved for Bleach 2 which would be a prequel.

  • August 29, 2012 at 1:52 pmDa5id

    Old man fight next week!

    OLD MAN FIIIIIIGHT.

Also I hope Kenpachi is not dead.

    • August 29, 2012 at 2:44 pmtasa

Seeing how Ichigo is the main character the old man fight might occur off screen like they did with kenpachi.

    • August 29, 2012 at 3:39 pmRandom_Ram

Kenpachi’s Reiatsu get’s absorbed by the Leader Guy, but Ken doesn’t die since half of his reiatsu is in the eye patch… This would lead to chibi kenpachi =3

Silliness aside I think a loss would give Mr Ken a chance to connect with his sword.

How the Hell you gonna end a chapter at the beginning of a fight for the conclusion of the battle to happen off Panel in the next chapter!? What the hell has happened to this manga? Seriously!? Has it always been this flaky or has the quality seriously dipped after The Hueco Mundo Arc? I think I’m done with bleach.

    • August 29, 2012 at 3:52 pmLK

Quality? What quality? I thought people are content with still panels of un-memorable characters looking serious and more still full profile panels of somewhat memorable characters also looking serious and melancholy.

Action? What action? I thought stop motion, distant explosion and dramatic poses are everything people need!

Plot? What plot? You just got trolled!

      • August 29, 2012 at 5:57 pmYogo

        Problem, officer?

    • August 30, 2012 at 1:25 amSinTei

They by all means, please do so. If you think you’re done, then stop. Don’t take back your words.

It’s really annoying when people say stuff like that. Also in Naruto.

It’s ok to make predictions or opinions to who Tobi really is. What annoys me is that along some people’s so called opinion, you will see a line that states.. “If Tobi is Obito, then I would give up naruto”. or “If Tobi is Kagami, then I will stop watching Naruto”. or something like that.

It’s just plain annoying. I hope they do take their words seriously. Because they are not fans and only watch naruto to find out who Tobi is.

Do you think the Quincy king is simply on par with Yama-ji in strength, or do you think he’ll have some ace up his sleeve like Aizen did with Wonderweizz’s ability? Btw, I’ll betcha we’re switching back to hecho mundo next week. These pseudo-cliffhangers are the only way Kubo’s drawing back readers.

    • August 29, 2012 at 4:36 pmSAScans

He’ll have some ace up his sleeve.

      2 reasons:

      1. Plot. Ichigo has to save the day. If soul society could manage with just the Captain Commander, it wouldn’t be Bleach. And he doesn’t need to save the day if the Captain Commander wins this fight.
      2. The guy knows what the Captain Commander can do. If he showed up 1,000 years after their last battle without some plan to deal with him, he’s simply an idiot. Which, while possible, I point you to point 1. If they didn’t need Ichigo & crew to win for them this arc wouldn’t even occur.

I like your blogs much better Stereoman. Your blogs are much more well written than Prooof’s. That and you’re actually on time, lol.

  • August 29, 2012 at 5:21 pmNadester

Well so much for Kenpachi putting on a good show for us. T_T

  • August 29, 2012 at 5:32 pmSecsuey

    Bleach
    ————–THE FIRE RISES————
    also in 3D

  • August 29, 2012 at 6:17 pmAlcren

So….besides kenpachi getting his butt whooped hardcore, and the commander flying toward juha, did anything really significant happen in this chapter? No? Really? I think kubo just trolls for the sake of trolling now.

  • August 29, 2012 at 6:43 pmgawrshness

Ah good ol’ Kenpachi finally felt the full power of Kubo’s troll stick…

  • August 29, 2012 at 6:49 pmTOP2NE1

Kenpachi lost like I wanted! Good for you villains. You’re not complete jokes.

The fight was offscreened, removing half of the grounding that this fight should have established. So meh, standard Kubo fare. Interesting ideas, wonky execution. Now all we need is some Mayuri and Unohana action. I’d like to see some smart people tackle unexpected situations like they’re supposed to.

  • August 29, 2012 at 7:59 pmJoh2pao

Then Obito comes out bustin a space fine ninjutsu ready to bust some Quincy skulls

  • August 29, 2012 at 8:05 pmJustinnnnnn

I must say, I enjoyed this chapter for once. It’s been a very good while since I felt emotionally attached to Bleach characters, and seeing Yamamoto rampage in flames and lift everyone’s spirit was actually very, very cool.

And to the people wondering if Kenpachi is being dead…He is not. Kubo wouldn’t kill him off without making him go out with a bang. Hell, I still have my doubts Rukia’s brother is actually dead – though the death flags have been pretty much set for that possible (but very unlikely) outcome.

  • August 29, 2012 at 8:10 pmDio Brando

sigh… for the pass chapters all my comment have been the same. what the hell kubo???? no Ichigo/no Urahara/no fighting/NOT EVEN HOW KENPACHI LOST.

all the build up Kenpachi 2 CHAPTERS end up with nothing! (last panel holding 3 bodies, another chapter describing how he PWN the 3 of them, this chapter lost.) Great manga, great last arc, 3 chapters, 0 progress.

  • August 29, 2012 at 9:10 pmJello

I’m more excited to see Shunsui’s zanpakutou development than Yama-jii’s >_>…

  • August 29, 2012 at 9:50 pmSinTei

I felt the heat and rage of the captain commander. I thought he used Bankai back then. I saw a dragon like flame when he jumped. I’m not that disappointed with Kenpachi’s fight, though I would love to read it. The only thing I’m upset about is that I won’t be able to watch it happen. Damn, because of those fillers the anime had to suffer. I want to watch bleach again! This arc is definitely more brutal and a lot of blood and gore than the previous arc. I would love to watch it. The anime should have went on a haitus instead of having those fillers.

  • August 29, 2012 at 11:50 pmKenshin

I think the reason why they made Zaraki like this is because, and again I’m just speculating, Zaraki is going to be saved by his Zanpakto and maybe he’ll get his Bankai.

    • August 30, 2012 at 2:00 amSarge

Or, you know, just to emphasize that the bad guys don’t need to seal Bankais to own.

Though, my personal favorite explanation is that when conceptualizing the Vandenreich, Kubo forgot that he still has yet to give Zaraki a Bankai. Cue quickfix: pit Zaraki against boss man and have him get owned off-panel so nobody sees what boss man can really do. With Zaraki down, Kubo does not have to think of any other lame power up for him- he already used the bs Kendo card.

  • August 30, 2012 at 1:03 amMagnus

I think the next chapter will mostly be about Yamamoto and Bach having a discussion (where some interesting information could be ditched), and then either the chapter ends with them just beginning their fight, or Kubo jumps to another scene.

  • August 30, 2012 at 2:51 amSortedevaras

Inspired choice to have the only thing in the last several months that could have been exciting (Kenpachi fighting something) happen off screen. Bravo! Now we can have boring flashbacks for a few weeks, just what the fans wanted.

  • August 30, 2012 at 10:05 amLaughingMan

Honestly, Kenpachi’s defeat doesn’t surprise me. He was fighting the main antagonist of this arc after all. It looks like Kubo is trying to save Juha’s abilities for his fight against Yamamoto. Both look like they’re gonna go all out, so these next chapters should definitely be worth looking forward to. Of course, I have a HUGE feeling that Yamamoto is gonna die…

  • August 30, 2012 at 10:19 amAshen

I don’t particularly mind that Kenpachi lost; if he defeated the Final Boss before our orange-headed protagonist showed up, that’d be a pretty bizarre ending, but I’m disappointed we didn’t get to see any of his fights so far with the Vandenreich. In fact, it feels like a lot of the characters on both sides are getting skipped over. They end up dead or knocked out with only a single page or two that handwaves what happened to them.

  • August 30, 2012 at 1:56 pmYanDaMan

What I’m disappointed about is that Yamamoto went straight for the leader, I would’ve loved to just see him pwn a bunch of random quincy captains first, since he’s clearly got hax power levels and is mad pissed.

And we all know he probably WONT win in his fight, this is Bleach. All the glory always somehow gets given to Ichigo in the end. Of course I really hope I’m wrong. In the case that Yamamoto do win, it’ll probably be from a retreat due to the Valdenheich leader being pushed back. Cause I doubt this final arc will end this early. Probably gona retreat back to their Quincy base and use Harribel to make more baby quincies or something, lol.

  • August 30, 2012 at 5:06 pmSecsuey

Goooosh! I would love to belive that Yamamoto have a chance but this is bleach and only Ichigo win at the end.

    • August 31, 2012 at 12:11 amBROOKLYN otaku

exactly….lets begin to PREP ourselves for what is to come….an annoying show of power from the opposition that cant be stopped by all the hidden bankai’s and whatever. until the heroes arrive….how convenient…SURPRISE ME KUBO!!! I FU#KING DARE YOU!!!!

  • August 30, 2012 at 10:13 pmJounouchi

This final arc is already feeling pretty rushed. Once again there is a group battle where the battles are meaningless and the outcomes are careless. The explanation and build up is cheap and i have no investment in the characters lives. So far this is a sad way of ending a manga. Hope the pace slows down and background info and suspense can be developed.

  • August 30, 2012 at 10:57 pmASdae

Kubo will troll everyone and go back to Hueco Mundo (hopefully…) he needs to create more expectation to Yamamoto’s vs. BB fight!

That badass Kenpachi … just like that. =(

STILL BORING!! come on cut the FORMULA ALREADY!!!! I know its stupid to compare SHOUNEN Jump material , but this is why i like one piece, WE ALL KNOW how it will end “more or less” but i swear every time i crack open a new chap, I never know whats gonna happen next. BUT THIS……? gimme a break. and kenpachi is still holding his sword, and he never went bankai….WHATEVER..i wonder what will happen, NOT!!..*snicker* I’m talking alot of SHIT ain’t I?? that’s cool, its the internet baby!!!!ho hum…lets hash this back story out for a couple of boring chaps while ICHIGO is trapped in a poorly designed plot device, well I guess it coulda been worse, ichigo coulda been fighting his EMOTIONS AGAIN in some ILLUSION… somebody wake me when ABARIA gets his head chopped off. or something to that effect.

    • August 31, 2012 at 12:13 amBROOKLYN otaku

MAN I WISH I COULD DRAW GOOD!!! I’d finish this guys ish!

  • August 31, 2012 at 7:54 pmDave

Hmm… everyone getting up, feeling stronger, tide turning in their favour….

Yup, we’re totally not approaching that point in the story where the Captain Commander loses his fight and everyone falls. Honest.
